Let me start by saying, I haven't fully digested this release
Here were some interesting statistics.
- Facebook is now at 750 million users
- 4 Billion things shared each day
- 50% of users participate in groups with the average group size being 7 people
- Share is growing exponentially, meaning: Last year you shared one thing per day. This year 2, next year 4 and so on.
So the big releases were related specifically to Groups, Chat and Video Chat.
Groups
With groups you can now enable an Ad Hoc group for a quick chat. From a real estate perspective, think about getting the buyer, the seller, the buyer's agent and the seller's agent all on a group chat to work through a few final details about the sale, closing time, etc. You don't have to form a group, just get on and click on the user's names from your friend list and be on your way.
Chat
Blah blah blah. It is going to be easier. Basically they rearranged some buttons. Not anything newsworthy there.
Video Chat
Their big release was the addition of a Skype powered video chat. The roll out began today and unfortunately, I haven't gotten a look at it yet, but supposedly you can one-click to video chat a friend whether they have Skype or not. Once I have this, I will put it through its paces and see how you can use this within your Facebook Business Page to make your presence even more effective. If rolled out well, I can see this being a great customer service method.
More to come from the land of Facebook as these features become available for actual review.
