Are you So Busy You Don't Have Time to Advertise Anymore?business blogging, ghost writing, localized blog post writing, content writing

I talked with a wonderful agent from ActiveRain today and she shared with me that she was now so busy she had neglected her continued marketing, even blogging. I can certainly see the dilemma. When you blog and market and advertise yourself so well there may [and usually does] come a time where you will get too busy to continue with the same marketing that got you the business in the first place!

So what do you do?

It's ok to take a break - FOR A WHILE

I mean, your current clients wouldn't want you sacrificing important time with them to market yourself to unknown potential clients. What would be the point?

You have to find your boundaries and know your limitations. Do you need 30 listings a month? (OK, maybe 30 closings would be nice) but you may be better off referring the occasional listing or buyer to a trusted colleague instead of sacrificing time with current ones.

Can you hire assistants?

Absolutely. You can even hire writers that simply keep up with local news and information on an occasional basis. Of course this is not as personal as you... but the occasional blog, article, press release or content page on your site can keep who you are in front of your demographic and keep that momentum coming.

Have you spent all your time designing, updating and maintaining your listings that you can't even show a house anymore when an impromptu client calls? These are things you can pass off to a virtual assistant or secretary.

The "Take-Away" is: Don't stop advertising. I am just as guilty in that when I get a big project under way I tend to stop focusing on advertising until it's done.

If you're blogging... you need to be doing it consistently. Again, it's OK to take a break - just don't let it be too big of a break that you find yourself in a dead office in 6 months time.

Tammy that is why everyone in our business needs a daily, weekly, monthly schedule of things they need to do to keep their business booming.  Yes, we all get caught up with stuff and when you are out showing property, taking listings, living your life, stuff gets in the way of running your business.

My advise, develop successful routines and follow them or you will wind up with no business.

Tammy, it does seem as though there's a constant balancing act between pursuing new business and taking care of the business you've already got.

Stephen, AMEN to that - having a plan, schedule, routine, something to keep you on track is certainly the way to stay on top of it all. (Can I schedule sick days in there too?  ;-)  )

Shannon - So right! Keeping one happy while gaining another.. Ahhh - we are the jugglers! :)

Thanks

Blogging can be tough, especially when you are very busy. For me, writing around the same time each day (usually at night) keeps blogging part of my daily routine.  I usually have a few posts in draft ready to go for days when I am too tired to touch the keyboard.

Thanks, Tammy.  I fell off the blogging wagon a little while ago, and now that I'm back on I feel like it keeps the rest of my business in line as well.  I'm a sucker for scheduling everything, so once I forced myself to schedule my blogging it's become a priority in my advertising time.  Great reminder!

You always have to stir the pot. Never stop advertising or marketing yourself. Whether it is online or at the grocery store be professional and personable. If you seem happy others will want what you have.

Anita, it's kind of like exercising. If we get in the habit then it's ok to eat that big meal (take a break) once in while because we've built up the momentum to go a little while. HA! :)

Didi - Thanks for the association! :) That darn schedule! Always keeps us going, doesn't it!? SO thankful for it!

Jody, or on facebook, right Jody!? ;-) YOu never know to whom you just may be advertising.,.. That is so true!!

Thanks!

It's okay to take a day off of blogging here or there but I try to do it every day - so when I do take a break it is just a day & not longer.  Ideally, I'd have some backups sitting in draft mode but am not there yet!

Maya, Thanks so much. I try to keep it up with at least 3-5 blogs a week. So far so good :)

Christine, I think I have about 30 in draft - most seemed like a good idea at the time :P

Markita, it's like you feel frustrated you can't catch up for a moment. Hate that.. I have to take one thing at a time and not get overwhelmed.

Well, I just think of a topic... that's about all that's there.. just don't want to loose the idea.. but then I go back and realize I may have nothing to say about it!HA.. maybe just a facebook status worth.. lol

I think, everyone has own way that works the best.

You just need to find it.

I just talked to my friend Realtor, he does not even a penny to advertise, he does not blog, or have a website....

but he is very heavy involved in creating relationship through Facebook, twitter, etc. People see his warm friendly personality and constantly refer business to him( mostly short sales). I was amazed with stories i heard from him.......and even more amazed that all ( ALL!) his business is a referral business.

Wow!
