We love our animals, but potential buyers may not. We live with our pets every day - we think their toys belong scattered about the house, and we think our pets don't smell. That's because they are members of our family. To make your home buyer-friendly (rather than pet-friendly) when marketing your property, follow these simple tips:
Remove your pets from the home when a showing or open house is scheduled. Buyers and agents cannot be responsible for even "friendly" pets while they are showing your home.
Clean your home daily concentrating on pet beds, carpets and anywhere your pet spends a lot of time. Pets do have odors, although pet owners may not be as sensitive to that smell as potential buyers. A non-pet owner friend may be helpful by giving your home a smell-test.
Pack away all dog related items during an open house or showing. You want your buyers to focus on your home, not on the animals that live in the home.
Invest in a good air purifier to freshen up your home. Lingering odors of any kind may turn off potential buyers.
And, finally, use the pooper-scooper. There is nothing worse than buyers taking a stroll through the back yard and having to clean off their shoes.
