Atlanta is one of top 5 Cities for Seniors

Hello friends. I  turn 61 next week, and have to start thinking about when I will opt to receive Social Security. I love Atlanta, and it is good to know that many others do as well.

The top five cities in the nation for retirees to live are Atlanta, Boston, Chandler, Ariz., Milwaukee and Portland, Ore., according to a recent study conducted by AARP.

"The cities we chose are ahead of the curve in providing services for empty nesters, active retirees and everyone in between," said Steve Slon, editor of "AARP The Magazine."

The magazine's selections focus on "livable community" characteristics, such as mass-transit systems, wider sidewalks, health-care options and mixed-use housing. According to AARP, these qualities attract those 50 and older, a group that spends more than $2.2 trillion on goods and services annually and is projected to increase by 32 percent during the next 15 years.

Hi Bill,

This is very interesting...some people may have though Florida, but I'm finding that the older folks are starting to move out of Florida to places like NC and TN.  Hmmm, Atlanta here I come...LOL.
