IE 9: The Mysterious Case of the Browser That Wouldn't Behave

Had a problem posting a blog today.  Called AR and spoke with Karli who diagnosed the issue immediately.  I'll use Firefox until AR and IE-9 are compatible.  Thanks Karli...

Dr. Watson, the ever-logical assistant to the great and glorious Sherlock Holmes, was a man of keen intelligence. However, he did not share the phenomenal powers of deduction that his friend Mr. Holmes possessed in great abundance. At one point, Sherlock famously exclaims to Watson (perhaps in exasperation), "How often have I said to you that when you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth?"

Luckily, we have Holmes, not Watson, working hard on the mysterious case of IE 9: The Browser That Wouldn't Behave.

Many of our members use Internet Explorer, and many of you have been upgrading to the latest and greatest version, IE 9. Pleased with your fancy new digs, you hop onto ActiveRain to write a post or comment on some blogs, ready to gloat about your impressive internet prowess. You're using the latest browser available, after all! You are amazing, a genius, and suddenly the world seems brighter and even the birds sing a little louder!

But then, strange things start happening. You write a comment on a blog and click "submit." An error appears: "Comment cannot be left blank." This makes no sense at all; you can see the comment, it's right there, you've just written it! Baffled, you start to write a blog post, intending to ask other members if they have received this odd error message as well. You quickly discover you cannot post a blog. Can I even edit my profile? you wonder, and attempt to make a change. Alack and alas, this too will not work.

Is it possible, you ask yourself, that this could be an issue with my pretty, shiny new browser? Is ActiveRain incompatible with IE9?

"Impossible!" says Watson.

"Don't be so hasty, Watson," says Holmes.

However improbable it may seem, if you have upgraded to IE 9 you will be unable to input or submit any written data; this means no comments, no blog posts, no edits to your profile. While Watson was quick to say this idea was impossible, our diligent Holmes infoms us that the sad truth of the matter is that IE 9 is not currently compatible with our current version of blog and comment forms.

Once our valiant development team have verified the stability of an upgrade to this portion of our network, we will implement a new version of our rich-text editor, and this will allow ActiveRain and IE 9 to ride off into the sunset together and live happily ever after. This solution is still a few weeks out, but it will happen as soon as our development team can safely implement the change.

In the meantime, we have a solution for you: use a different browser with ActiveRain. If you are able, use your "old" version of Internet Explorer, or download a browser that is more compatible with our network. We recommend Firefox (don't worry, it's free!), Safari, or Google Chrome.

We know this is frustrating, especially for you die-hard IE fans. We will have a fix for this in the near future. But no matter what, we wanted to keep you in the loop!

I encountered that problem a few months ago as well and I now know not to use IE 9 when logging into AR.  The only problem is, the email for featured blogs comes to my outlook web access business email and that is supported by IE 9.
