Visiting fox caught us by surprise!

This evening, a visiting fox caught us by surprise!  My mother and I were doing a skype call to my soon-to-be 3 year old grandson when out of the corner of my vision, I saw a red streak across the backyard. On second look, I focused in on a very small and thin brownish red fox as he climbed up the stairs to my mother's back patio.

For over 15 minutes he rested, scratched and groomed himself. I grabbed my camera, a Nikon 3000, and shot a few photographs through the back door. Shortly thereafter, he scampered to the neighbor's yard.  This is Arlington, Virginia, a mile from the Pentagon!

Hi Emelyn -  I would not wish for the fox to eat either of my two cats, but I always feel sorry for every animal be it a fox or a cayote as you see them running around, half-starved and knowing it is due to our taking their land....  what a sweet looking fox...   Thank you! G

Wow!!! We have tons of coyotes, so seeing a fox is pretty cool!  Great stuff.

Emelyn - That fox is so cute!  We have them here, but I rarely see them in the wild.  I can imagine the visit of the one you have pictured was quite a treat!

Hi Everybody. Thanks for your comments. When we lived in the mountains, seeing coyotes, foxes, elk and even bears occurred regularly. Even in my suburban home outside of Denver I have a fox that regularly crosses my yard. What amazed me about this little fox was how long he lingered on the patio....a good 15 to 20 minutes!

Thanks for sharing your fox pictures.  It appears to need a few good meals.

 Blooming for you!
