AR Tutorials - Adding Widgets And HTML To Your Sidebar

Services for Real Estate Pros with RealSatisfied

Adding Widgets To Your ActiveRain SidebarThe most common question asked of me by ActiveRain members is, "How do you get all of those widgets in your sidebar?"

So, let's get this ActiveRain Video Tutorial about the Sidebars out the door.

This video covers two areas:

  • copying and pasting into your sidebar from outside sources, widgets,
  • and creating your own html for your sidebar.

There are lots of widgets you can add to your sidebar, like LibraryThing, which is one of my favorites. There are literally thousands to choose from at Widgetbox. Getting those into your sidebar is as simple as copying and pasting the code they give you when you set up your widget. It's pretty simple, once you know where to paste it!

What is not as easy, for most, is creating your own "widgets" for your sidebar.

The example to the right shows what I mean. What if you want your logo to point to your bog or to your website and you don't know how to write HTML? There may be a widget generator out there to help you, but you don't need it. This video should clarify how to create your own and give you a simple way to customize your sidebar to your heart's delight.

I just started widgeting! We are going into e-commerce at work, I'm loaded to go, not trained and so not 'live on-line' yet, BUT, I love widgets. I want to widget everything. I will soon need a longer computer sreen for my side-bar to fit. So, before the trainer comes, I have, my e-commerce site ready, the time in analogue and digital, the weather (naturally I will be sending out product, and we are sick of being suddenly flooded, isolated, cycloned on, bush-fired at, or whatever this Aussie weather throws at us ) so I will know whether to ship or hold-off. (Yes, I know, I'm so proud of myself for thinking of that, too!) plus I can have photos of the family scrolling through to remind me life is not all about work, and I can watch how my AFL Footy Team Carlton are going (yes, I realize no-one else in the world knows that besides (true) Football (Soccer- brought up as a true Football girl), we have Rugby League, Rugby Union and also Grid-Iron (your American Football), which is vital to get you through the day, as well as our very own Australian Rules Football (which has become one of my addictions!). My personal slogan has always been 'I Am Lea' (meaning, I CAN Do It !, or I believe in Myself, that type of slogan but with a bit of punch to it). This year my team Carlton Football Club has I Am Carlton as it's slogan and we all have different, passions, assets, interests, but we all are ourselves and we all bring something to the team, even as supporters. My Club Team Member Card actually reads I AM LEA, just as all other players, to water boys have their own. Together we have become I AM CARLTON. I'm bringing I AM into my team here at work, as I think it's a terrific way to bring my Gen Y's (know everything, but talk about the fact so much there's no time left to actually DO anything), Gen X's (will do anything you ask them to, so it's your fault if you weren't specific), 'The' Generation (apologies, but we thought we were the first generation to be cool enough to name ourselves & are totally appalled that our children think we aren't cool enough to hang out with), and my Baby-Boomers (who apparently invented everything, just choose to leave it to anyone younger to touch - translation ' I leave my mobile off, so that if I have an emergency and need to ring someone I can. How would I know you wanted to ring me?' & the classic ' Why is there an envelope on my phone?') together as one team. It's all on, up and loaded ready to go.

Hope the trainer is impressed. Widgets will unite my workers, but they can still be themselves. I feel so brilliant, I hope you don't mind if I don't mention all your help? Thanks heaps, you've made the boss look cool at last!

*** I'm not in sales; I'm in CUSTOMER SERVICE

Another area of complete cluelessness for me I'm glad I found this - I'll probably have tons of questions. But.... you need to add an "L" to this sentence:

The example to the right shows what I mean. What if you want your logo to point to your bog or to your website and you don't know how to write HTML

Freudian slip? I know I frequently feel bogged down when deciding what to write....
