Google+... Like getting a new bike... Then missing your old one?

Google+Google+, its like getting a new bike...  A shiney new bike...

I mean, you love to ride bikes...  You ride it every day, as soon as you wake up and right before you go to bed. You take your bike to the mall, to the movies, on a date, to the park, and sometimes you ride it when you are on conference calls.  You have a picture of it on your iPad, iPhone, Driod, RIM...  You take it to bed, only to awaken when you hear it tell you that something new is happening down the block. You are on your bike every day, and sometimes ride it with many other bike riders! Why, your bike is magical...  It can change colors, become more formal or less...  Can give you more Klout among your friends, can make your business shine, and can do soooooo many things...  It has a card in the spokes that makes a clatter as you ride making people notice you.  When you ride it, people catch up to you and follow.  They just love the streamers you have, and when you make changes people copy you as a sign of influence.

Then, sometimes...  Yeah, sometimes you wonder of there are other bikes out there...

facebookThen you find out there is a new bike out there, and now you want it...  More than anything in the WORLD!  You ask and ask and search and ask and finally you get it.  You get a new bike... This bike has new colors you have never seen.  New circles and wheels...  New pictures, and ways to reach out and meet new friends...  It has different brakes, and lines, and handle bars...  People are talking about it...  People are wanting it...

But in the end, you realize it is still just a bike.  And after riding it for a few days, you put it back in the garage. You put it back, because you miss your old one.  The new one you just got is pretty awesome, I must say...  AND, you take it out and ride it from time to time to show everyone how aresome you are... But it's not your old one.  When you compare, your old one is actually newer then the new one... Or at least just as new...

Now you love your new bike, and take it out from time to time...  However your old one is the one you continue to ride... Kinda like a classic car that keeps on innovating.

A classic-new-futuristisc-bike?   But lets wait and see if I long for my new bike more than the old...  Time will tell!

Hi Chris,

I received an invitation to try out the new bike and so far at least I have not focused on it. Guessing you accepted the invite?

Very cleverly written and similar to a conversation we just had with a new lister.  Sometimes people discover that they just spent more money for the new bike only to discover there aren't that many new bells and whistles on it than their classic old bike which has been a really good friend to them for a long time.  With the additional money spent on the new bike they could have put gas in the car to take the old bike out to more exciting rides!

Happy travels.

I like your old bike and I'm flying with you. Not ready to get rid of the training wheels yet, so I'll have to wait on the new bike. XO

Chris, I guess this is exactly where the saying "the grass is always on the other side of the fence" applies. I just got an invite and haven't looked at it yet.

I love your analogy... I was actually leaning to it being more like shoes (YES! I LOVE SHOES!), you have a pair that you have broken in they look nice, they are comfortable, and then you see a new pair and you have to have them.. You wear them for a day and it's agonizing.. Blisters, you almost would prefer to crawl then to walk any further in them but you keep wearing them because you know if you don't, you will never break them in and they will never be comfortable like your other shoes (that were at one time just as uncomfortable as the new ones). :)

I'm following the old bike.
Following the new bike.
Also Flying with you...

Have a great weekend Chris.. :)

hey Chris - then sometimes the NEW bike is actually better than the OLD bike, already been riding the new bike a week and I'm having very little desire to go back to the old (except for the people who are still only there) - time will tell for sure, but have a good feeling about it... :)

Craig - I see you point..  kinda like the apple vs pc type battle.  It took so long to create such reach with my FB sites...  Many may not do both, so my closer friends may be in g+ but then everyone on FB.  So time will tell.  I am very adaptable, so if it becomes huge, then I'm along for the ride!

Kristine - That is kinda what I think.  There will be early adopters who will love it, then maybe a bunch that may not care.  But we have to remain open to the next big thing!
