Every Day's a New Day At Green Cay... Some Creatures Coming and Some Critters Going!

I'm out at Green Cay in Boynton Beach almost every day for my morning walk.  Besides the foot and back friendly
boardwalk and the wonderful friends my husband and I have met there, I love it because you never know what you're going to see.
I've introduced you to my Gator friends and shown you moorhen nests and I've learned to carry my camera with me whenever I go.  I also learned this last week that carrying a plastic bag with you to protect your camera comes in very handy for unexpected rain showers.

However... one day this past week held some very different surprises for me!

                             Green Cay Wetlands Butterflies

We walk along the same walk every day... I know almost every paver along the path, but when I looked down into the little plants along it one day these wonders of nature were everywhere!  I could see a few of the chrysalis moving but it was just to slow to catch on video. I wish I had some kind of time lapse photography gizmo!
The next day... there were only a handful left in the plants.   At least I was there to see them come into our world!

My second surprise surprised my little friend as well!   We're used to seeing a critter or two on the boardwalk... the 2 legged kind don't bother us but usually the 4 legged ones stay away from us.    Bobcats usually will scurry ahead of you while crossing but never close.  So when I turned the corner to see this guy... we were both surprised!

                   Green Cay raccoons

I fumbled with my camera and got a few shots of the little guy as he scurried away.  Others had seen him on the boardwalk as well so he was either rabid or one of the juveniles we suspected were around.  Either way... off he went!

If you're in this area... take a trip out to Green Cay... and give me a call and I'll give you a personal guided tour!

Kathy - sounds like fun! You may want to check your photo upload; they didn't come up when I visited just now.

If you are going to meet rabid animals on your walk, I would carry something else in addition to a camera for shooting.  Be careful.

Hey Kathy-what a great place to walk! I am going to have to drive up a check it out-I love all that stuff. I surprised a huge racoon the other night in my driveway and I was like "ok, beach coons"? Never saw them here before-LOL

Good morning Kathy,

As Roger puts it you have taken us to "Kathy's Animal Kingdom" again! Love you sharing us your finds on your walks. I like Barbara got a little concerned about a "rabid" animal of any kind! Yikes..I'd be sooooo running the other way :)

After seeiing your shots, I realize I must carry my camera.  But the possibility of rabid bobcats, racoons or any other critters-I too would be running in the opposite direction.  Great photos!

Carol- may have been an AR fluke but hope you came back to see the pics!

Debbie- trust me... it keeps us walking, I'd find walking on a treadmill or on neighborhood streets boring.

Don- thanks... that was rare to see a raccoon so close but you're right, if they don't seem to be scared of you ..that's not a good sign.

BARFF- you're too funny and hope you're feeling better!

Barbara- LOL!!! It is so safe out there.. really!  Even the rare snake keeps its distance!

Marco- come on up!  Now I wouldn't have expected to see a raccoon in the "city"!  Looking for food I guess.

Dorie- I'll have to write about my time in South Texas when there was an outbreak of rabid coyotes... remember that.. about a dozen or so years ago.

Joanna- I'm sure this was a juvenile.  Many weeks ago there was a mama and her 3 babies in a nearby tree. But, yes, I don't want to get close to one.

Kathy,

Your post is so sincere and heartwarming. I just love nature and your photos and words are inspiring. Getting back to nature makes us all a little more human, doesn't it? You really did a nice job and I enjoyed reading every word and seeing the photos too.

Patricia- You are too kind!  I love observing animals and never lose my fascination for them.  And we can learn so much just from watching.

I think racoons don't come out during the day so you are probably right about that!  Great pictures Kathy!
