Much of what we do online is a test.  There’s never a guarantee that our post will be indexed by any of the search engines.  How many times have we written a post and used the proper keywords, and it’s on the second page rather than the first?  It happens.

But on the same note we, more often than not, find our posts on the first page and above the fold.  We make note of what we did to get there, and we continually repeat that similar format.

If you notice others who are attempting similar posts, do you check the search engines to see if they are doing it properly?  I know, it’s not our job to do that, but I think it’s called goodwill and sharing information with others.  It’s always a test isn’t it?

Some pass with flying colors and others don’t even take the initiative to sit for the exam.  Which category do you find yourself in?  That’s right, it’s a rhetorical question, but it would be to your benefit to think about the honest answer.

It’s not difficult to help someone who is trying to successfully accomplish a new task.  Imagine how much easier life would be if more people practiced sharing information without feeling threatened about doing it?

AR is a fantastic forum to cut your SEO teeth on.  If something doesn't work, go search out what others are doing and see if there's a way to enhance or change your posts to get better results.  Sometimes, the keywords are saturated and landing on page 2 is the best you can do.  When that happens, trying to figure out what, how, etc. to get higher in the SERPs can be a real challenge but there are so many helpful folks on AR who are willing to assist.

This is such a sharing and giving place Barbara and you are one of the very best helpers there are here in Active Rain.  Now...I need you to do my marketing, LOL :)!

Anyway, working on those key words, SEO and such is very important.  I wish I could catch on really, really quick but it's a learning process.  Katerina's class is definitely something everyone should consider taking.

Barbara - I had to hit the "suggest' button on this one!  I love your thoughts on sharing.  I believe that sharing takes nothing away from me and if anything I know helps someone else, then it it a blessing to both of us!

Hi Barbara, One thing people have to keep doing is check their keywords.  What worked before may not work now.  Even short tail searches change with respect to competition and searches.  So every 3-4 months you have to go over what you are doing.  I think its very different for different areas. I'm going through some posts now and changing some of the keywords.  The one thing I find is that things don't remain static. So you have to keep learning and working.  The only constant is that nothing is constant.

I like posts like this because I learn.

I don't like posts like this because I learn that I don't know very much!  ;-)

I now have to admit that I haven't checked my standings or keywords in quite some time.  (but I will this week.)

Once again, many thanks to you, Barbara!

Hi Chris....you should make a habit of doing a google search after you submit a post....use the keywords that you used and see how long it takes to land on the first page.....

Barbara, I have been very busy and a bit sidetracked this year because we added foreclosure listings to the mix, so my blogging has taken a bit of a back seat and ouch! I can tell. I can see that consistency will help raise you in the organic searches as well as proper SEO.

It also pays to remember that there can only be so many people on page 1 of a Google search, so if everyone is doing the same thing, how does Google decide who to put on page 1? That’s why it’s important to do more than the minimum. Inundate the Internet with more posts than your competition, and you’ll have more Google returns!
