Things to do in Middle Georgia this Summer, Part V
After the adrenaline rush of Part IV, this installment slows things back down a tad so the entire family can jump in and have fun. As always, these venues are within a short driving distance from middle Georgia so pack up the kids for a day trip and have more fun while summer lasts.
High Falls State Park, Jackson GA - Pack a picnic lunch, check out the waterfall, enjoy a canoe or kayak ride, or just chill out by hiking or fishing. If you still have time, rent a pedal boat, play miniature golf, go swimming in the pool (not allowed in the river), go geocaching, or take one of the guided tours or nature classes. While you are at it, scout out the area and come back for a weekend tent or RV stay. Family fun and high adventure await your entire family at High Falls! Call the park at (478) 993-3053 for the latest information.
The Rock Ranch, The Rock GA - The kids are going to have a blast! Let them explore Tiny Town, take a pony ride, experience "wild" animals in the petting zoo, get lost in the corn maze, or take a train ride around the ranch. If that doesn't peak your interest, play on the giant jumping pillow, take a zipline ride, go on a paddle boat, or relax by cane pole fishing. Expect to spend a full day exploring, playing, and creating memories. Call ahead at (706) 647-6374 for your next family fun adventure.
Helen, Helen GA - This recreated alpine village reminds many of Germany. Visit during one of the many festivals, winefest, volksmarch, oktoberfest, or the summer Bavarian Nights. Make it a weekend trip and camp or rent a mountain cabin. Enjoy the rustic setting or get busy by shopping, fishing, tubing, golfing, or hike to Anna Ruby Falls. Whatever your families interests are, Helen won't disappoint.
Animal Safari, Pine Mountain GA - It's a jungle out there, literally. Feed the animals as you safari through 200 acres on a guided bus tour, zebra van, or brave the elements in your own car. The park has hundreds of animals so your sure to see exotic wildlife around every turn. After your trip, enjoy the rest of the park by leisurely strolling through the zoo-like environment. Food is available at the Safari Cafe so be sure to stop in for a nibble. Request more information by calling (800) 367-2751.
Hay House, Macon GA - Antebellum meets modern in this amazing southern mansion. Put on your walking shoes and meander through all seven levels of the home, check out the views from the catwalk or cupola, or put on your thinking cap and engage the brain by partaking in an educational program. Teach the kids a bit about history or learn something new yourself in this National Historic Landmark. For more details, reach the Hay House staff at (478) 742-8155.
It won't be long before the kids are back in school so take full advantage of their time off while it lasts. Whether you take one of these excursions or do something entirely different, being active and enjoying our wonderful state should be at the top of your to-do list this summer.
