Soccer Enthusiast?

By
Real Estate Agent with Coldwell Banker Apex, Realtors

Are there any Soccer Enthusiasts in the AR, or in the US for that matter?  Soccer is the fifth largest sport in the US although #1 in the world and growing feverishly in the Frisco area.  There are over 4400 participants in the local youth league, with only 1200 participants in Football (and that includes the cheerleaders).  I know that the US is seeing a huge growth in Soccer among youth, but I am curious if there are any Soccer Fans in the AR community?

As this is a growing sport, I would expect the next generation to know more about it, and have a growing appreciation for it and in turn, the sport will grow in the professional arena due to a better understanding of the game among the general populas.

Colon, I will tell you this, since meeting my other half, I have developed a liking for soccer. With 2 family members that played amateur soccer all over the world and a neighbor that is playing collegiately, I have learned some about the sport.

Hey Danny - Do you follow any teams?  EPL, MLS or simply enjoying the game.  I have found that with any sport, you almost have to start backing a team, and finding passion with their successes.  That seems to make a difference in how much someone will start to watch and/or enjoy the game.  Sort of 'creating' a reason to watch.  I have personnally grown partial to the US National team (both Men's & Women's) as well as FCBarcelona.

Also -Although I can be an A$% I try not to take it to a level that a change in the spelling of my name is required :-)

GO MAGGIES !!!!!!!!!

Newcastle United 'Magpies'.

I grew up playing soccer in the hotbed of Philly years and years ago.....

Now, I can't play (KNEES)....OLD......but like a good international match on TV.

Never got into watching the present US Soccer League.....  (or any of the 5 or whatever that came and went... though I did go to a few Philadelphia Atoms games.....YEARS ago.....).

We have the MLS at a new stadium here in Frisco (FCDallas).  Games are fun to go to for a family night out, but not the same as EPL.  We had the US Youth Nationals here in Frisco this year as well.  We watched a lot of good soccer that week.

Without quality professional teams to back, it is tough to ignite the fan base.

The MLS seems to have more talent and a bit more fun to watch than the US Soccer League.

Collin, the only team that I have followed was the USA women's team. Outside of that, I have never really did much.

Danny - the Women's National Team has been great for US Soccer.  The US fan base will support winners, and they have definitely done that.  Unfortunately, the only press that they received this year was bad press with the Hope Solo issue.

Getting a fan base for the MLS or the other US Soccer is unfortunately going to be tied with winning.  Other parts of the world are successful in sport because the fan base can appreciate the maticulous and dynamic play of the players - as opposed to wins and losses.  This has been the problem with Youth Soccer.  Individual development takes a back seat to team dynamics and tactical methodology.  Other parts of the world cheer on a great individual or team play - US fans predominately cheer only goals.

Nonetheless - a great sport to watch.  If you have a local team - get behind them and enjoy some good family fun.  Learn the chants.  Create the environment.  That is the fun of Soccer.

Here I am Collin... I'm quite the fan, and love to watch it as much as playing.  My father was a professional player but I was never good at it.. I just run fast and can't control the ball while I'm running  :)

But it is a great work out and fun to play

Collin,

You are right about soccer in Frisco and the world.  If Americans weren't so in love with football, we'd join the rest of the world in soccer.  But Frisco is doing it right and bringing in some top-notch sports venues, and as Maxwell Smart used to say, we're "loving every minute."

Tell Michelle I said HI.

All the best,

Soccer I have always found to be interesting...just like basketball!  Why do you want to run back in fourth kicking or throwing a ball in a net?  Just odd for me!  LOL...jk...baseball and football..now you are talking!  No, in seriousness!  Great sport and now that Houston has the Dynamo's it's really is picking up here.  Great sport and it is only growing!!!
