Have you always wanted to ride the battlefields of Gettysburg, PA and learn the the history of the famous battles fought in July 2nd, 3rd & 4th of 1863? Here's your chance!
Here is an opportunity to bring your horse for a 7 1/2 mile ride and see the battlefields the way the armies from the North and the South saw it: from horseback.
A guide will lead the ride and will stop along the trail to enlighten the riders as to what was happening on the portion of the battlefield that you are traversing. The guide will point out the significance of the various landmarks and buildings along the way. Hear the many factual stories at each stop and find out what really happened those 3 days.
The trail goes along the original farm lanes that were used by local people to travel from one farm to another. The trail also runs behind the Confederate line where the Southern armies waited during the cannonade on the 3rd day of the battle.
You MUST bring your own horse. NO horse rentals are available. It is strongly recommended that horses are either shod or wear protective boots as the trails are gravel based and rocky, and the trail crosses macadam from time to time. The horses should be comfortable around traffic (tour buses, motorcycles, etc.) and any sights, sounds and smells encountered along the way. The horses should be able to stand still in a group during the stops while the guide speaks.
ALL horses are required to have proof of a current Negative Coggins.
So spend a few days with your horse and ride the battlefields of Gettysburg while learning the history of the famous 3 days in 1863. (Camping with your horse is also permitted with advance reservation.) The ride itself is about 3 1/2 - 4 hours.
