Get Off the Mountain RIGHT NOW! Advice from a Spirit?

This story might be a little freaky for some folks but it's a real story that happened to me and a friend.  A couple of years back a friend of mine that lives in Flagstaff suggested we meet in Sedona for a hike which was about the same distance/time for both of us to travel.  I met her at the Coffee Pot Cafe (a local favorite hangout for breakfast) and we made a plan to hike up to what we call Hole in the Rock.

Being a lovely summer day in Sedona, the sky was as bright a blue as I've seen with fuffy white clouds, making the red rocks of Sedona stand out even more.  Stunning Views of Sedona!!  The trail is not a long a strenuous trail but rather a pleasant little day hike trail.  We both had only our day-packs with some water and few snacks and a deck of 'Indian Medicine Cards". The trail was supposedly a spiritual place for Indians so we figured it would be pleasant and serene.

We wound our way up the hill through a series of caves and arrived at the top which is always a 'AH HA' moment from every mountain top in Sedona. We were enjoying a nice conversation while we were playing with the Indian Medicine cards. The cards are kind of cool, you can get a 'feel' for answers to situations or dilemas or just learn more about yourself.

I was doing my friends cards when all of a sudden I had this VERY STRONG URGE to jump off the mountain. It felt very weird but I didn't mention it to my friend- thinking what the heck is that? (no I'm not nuts!) We continued on with the reading and it happened again -  with an even a stronger PUSHING from behind feeling. Now this was getting a even weirder but I still stayed quiet- was I imaging this???

Then a moment or two later I FELT a  VERY POWERFUL PUSH FROM BEHIND. I looked at my friend and said "We need to Get off the Mountain NOW!  RIGHT NOW!.  She took one look at my shocked face and we quickly picked up our stuff and headed down faster than you could imagine.

Within a minute we tucked into a cave and all of a sudden - out of nowhere - it started to thunder and lighting like crazy.

WE WERE STUNNED! Could it be that somebody (on the spirit side) was trying to warn us and save our live.

It seemed more than very strange at the time but I'm certain that had we NOT gotten off the mountain one or both of us could have been killed or hurt very badly from the lighting.

Needless to say whatever or whoever it was that caused us to run for our lifes, we were very grateful to be safe in the cave.  We were stuck in that cave for about 2 hours or so while the thunder, lightning and rain pounding down all around us. It was quite scary and we were hoping and praying it wouldn't last past dark. Luckily we had a few snacks and a warm shirt - plus of course the Indian Medicine Cards to while away the time in our safe haven.  It was one of the most memorable hikes either one of us had ever done in our life up to that point - and there hasn't been another even remotely as crazy - to this very day.  And I hope it doesn't happen again! But if it does I hope something or someone will be watching over us and keeping us safe.

Nothing like a quiet little hike in Arizona!

Anna, I LOVE stories like this! I am familiar with Sedona, a very spiritual place that I immediately gravitated to and am also familiar with Medicine Cards. Obviously, that first "hint" wasn't strong enough and your spirit guide had to really get your attention. So glad you and your friend listened and she didn't try to talk you out of it.

Anna,  I have been to the very spot where the first photo was taken "Devils Bridge" If I recall.  My wife and I love Sedona and try to make it an annual visit..usually Oct or Nov when its a bit cooler.  We have experienced some very odd sensations at times ourselves but your event was quite powerful.  I am so glad you listened to that inner or outer voice and got down.  If it was Devils Bridge is it very exposed..Ahh but those views are spectacular.  Fun hike! Can get muddy getting out of there in the rain.

Oh my Anna- I would have been shaking so badly waiting in that cave for the storm to pass. I have never experienced anything like that thank goodness. Yikes. BTW- the photos are beautiful.

Ellen and when you do we'll spend some time hiking!  It's so beautiful in Sedona. And it's only about 1 1/2 hour drive or so from Phoenix.

Well Ms. Banana....you said I would like it. You are wrong. I loved it. I knew you and I were very alike in our belief systems. I'm certain there is no question that you were being warned. Gayle called it a Spirit Guide and some people call them our Angels. You know that I believe that we all have this "protection system" and if we simply "listen" when we are being told we can live much longer lives.

Thank you for sharing this wonderful story. And, thank heavens you listened to that pushy spirit!

Darn, I wish I had been there! Let's do this together some day okay?

;-)

Anna- my husband was just reading an article in a magazine about a couple who were hikers.  In the article they said when they were on a mountain and saw a black sky in the distance, they wouldn't wait... they'd head down as quickly as they could.  Good thing you had "something" that told you to get off the mountain.

Great story about our otherworldly helpers. Gave me chills. My son is an adventure guide and heli-ski operator in Alaska. He's had many "odd moments" such as this one. I personally love it. Thanks Anna.

Someone was watching out for you, Anna! I think you were pretty brave to take shelter in a cave...I would have been afraid of snakes, or bears, or lions, or other critters that could have been in there.

now that is one crazy story. The good news is you heeded the feeling and took action. Luckily you found cover and were OK. I am not sure if the feeling of jumping off the cliff was from a good source but the decision to follow your instincts and bail was a sound one.

Peace

Anna.  I will have to get some of those Indian Medicine Cards.  I have Tarot cards and do those with my daughter occassionally.  My grandmother was a Cherokee Indian.  She died giving birth to her 13 th child in 1931 so i never met her.  Their spirits do linger though.  Cool stuff.

Gayle yes Sedona is such a wonderful 'spiritual' kind of place. I love hiking up there. I really feel like it was a 'push' of caringness - not something weird.  They just wanted us off the mountain top - thankfully!  The last PUSH was so strong that I simply couldn't ignore it.

John how cool that you've been to this place. And yes I forgot about how muddy it was....we were a mess but safe! And it's real name is Devils Bridge but we've always called it hole in the wall - who knows why!  I imagine you've hiked the West Fork of Oak Creek as well - if not try it out in Oct/Nov when the fall leaves are amazing.  Very inspiring place - anytime!  And do call when you'll be in town and the four of us can meet!

Ed....if you've never had the chance to visit Sedona put it on your bucket list.  Any day is a day of taking such awesome photos. I need to get back up there and take more!

Martha - oddly enough once we dashed down the hill into the cave it was quite serene.  We both felt that something awesome had saved us and being in the cave was like something out of a movie!  A first for me, for sure!

Deb - it was a very pushy angel or whatever!!  And I'm glad he/she persisted!  It was 'to say the least' interesting - one that I'll always remember with gratefulness.  Not sure we could re-create that one but there are lots of other fun adventures we could draw to us.....come to AZ and we'll play!!  I"ve got other stories....more later!

Kathy - many times here in AZ the storms come up really fast and we don't have much time to re-act.  When we do - we absolutley shoot down the hill as fast as we can.  Don't ever want to get stuck in a lightening storm with no cover.  We were just lucky there was a cave close by.....whew!  And of course that our 'friend' helped us get down.  You should have seen how fast we shot down that hill.....

Debb....something about being in nature seems to bring us closer to the spirit in all of us.  Your son must have some great stories - do share!!

Rose - nothing to scary in the caves.  There are a series of little caves that you  go through on the way to the top  of hill.   so now animals will  NOT want  to linger - too much traffic for them.

Yes it was from a good source - it was just their way of saying Get off the Mountain.  What better way to get a sane person to pay attention.  It was weird thou.....I still can feel the feeling!

Harry.....interesting to say the least!

Wow Belinda - 13th kids. Whoa....now that was one busy lady.  You might really appreciate the cards - kind of a conncection to your grandmother.

Anna, well, if you don't take the first or second hint, sometimes they have to get physical  which doesn't happen often so thank your lucky stars....or relatives.
