You never know who will stop and wave hello when on Mt. Scott Nature Trail in Happy Valley, Oregon

One of the things I love about hiking is the things you discover and who you meet along the way and the Mt. Scott Nature Trail in Happy Valley, Oregon was certainly no disappointment. This short series of trails is a circular trail that wraps around Mt. Scott and has lots to see, tough and feel.

Raccoon waiving hi in Mt. Scott Nature Park

Along the way we saw butterflies, bunnies and even this little lady above who was nice enough to wave to us as we walked by. Yes, she really was waiving and we thought it was a little weird, but we waved back and said hello. Then she proceeded along her way with her hubby and 2 little babies right behind. (Tried to get their pictures, but they were to small and were hidden by the brush in the area)

Todd - what a great photo and looks like a great hiking trail too.  I guess you just inspire friendliness in others whtehr man or beast.

Todd,

Love that picture.  Our oldest was out driving (just got his license a few weeks ago). He and his brother came RACING into the house, as they were so excited to tell us they had just seen a deer a 1/4 mile from our house.

Now, that might not sound so exciting, but we live in the beltway of Atlanta and that's NOT a common occurance.  The good news is that the deer and car were not too close.

While I know we've given him a lot of instructions of what to watch out for, I am pretty sure we didn't cover a deer:-)

All the best, Michelle

Todd, looks like a great way to spend an afternoon, but getting too close to some of nature's creatures can be dangerous, especially if it's one of those little kittens with the big white stripes down their backs.

Great pic of mama racoon! Waving is indeed fascinating. Wonder if she was shooing rather than waving?

Todd, look at that sweet face! I love raccoons, and actually had a couple of them take food right out of my palm at a dinner party out here one nite when friends from France were visiting. Their hands are quite delicate.

I know so often nature and wildlife are misunderstood. I embrace all of it.
