Into the great unknown. Estate settlement, estate liquidation and estate clean out in Fairfield County CT.
No two estate settlements are alike. But, the overall goal is usually the same, get the financial picture in order, clear out and clean up the estate and repair and prepare it to be sold. Ah yes, but the getting there....half the fun? Not in this case. This is no scenic drive along the coast to Disney World. This is the the mysterious "ESTATE SETTLEMENT ZONE".
When an executor or trustee gets the call that a loved one or client has passed away, they will soon be entering into the great unknown. Generally speaking, this is not their home, not their property and, not their accumulated possessions. Sure it may be a dad, mom or uncle's estate, but chances are, much time has passed since this was a place they easily recognize. Unless the previous resident(s) had the presence of mind to create detailed lists of important dates, contacts, receipts, financial information and other vital data, the person who is now responsible for all this will be flying blind. Add to this the possibility that they are from "out of town" and have few community contacts, and you have blind flying over unfamiliar terrain. Tough to land under these conditions.
Are the valuables, valuable information, valuable keys and passwords all there at your disposal? Was the previous resident an ardent collector of some obscure yet priceless things that look like nothing to the untrained eye? Did a young Pablo Picasso owe you grandfather some $$$ and settle the debt with a few paintings he had sitting around? Was Jimmy Hoffa last seen in the backyard? Has there been any routine maintenance done to the house and systems, ever? Are there service contracts for A/C, heating, snow removal and landscaping? Who knows. That information may be buried in the ground. It's up to those responsible to find it.
There is no easy way to get this done. One needs to roll up their sleeves and do a thorough room by room. box by box search. It is a time consuming arduous slog that must be done if all the available information is to be gleaned from the cluttered masses of "stuff". Once located and cataloged the pathway to closing down and cleaning out the Fairfield County CT. estate is much easier to navigate.
We at Turning Point Estate Services don't claim to have all the answers at our fingertips, (but we WILL find them). Like I said, no two estate settlements are alike. But, we have been through this before and have a good idea about how to make the process go as smoothly as possible. WE can help you when you are lost and overwhelmed.
