The Naked Blogger

Real Estate Broker/Owner with Real Estate Cafe LLC

The Naked BloggerMany have asked why I chose the pen name... The Naked Blogger.  Especially since I'm a relatively conservative gal who's pretty much chosen the straight and narrow path through life... accompanied by a trusted moral compass.  So what's all the fuss about The Naked Blogger?

When I was in the sixth grade, I dabbled in a game or two of Truth or Dare.  Every time someone asked... Truth or Dare, I waited with eager anticipation to hear the answer.  The risky behavior that sometimes followed filled me with curiosity.  However, my fascination for the game quickly ended when I accepted a dare that sent me to the closet with a boy I didn't like.  Awkward for sure, but a useful lesson in teaching me to make wiser choices.

Truth is...  getting naked doesn't have to be awkward.  Inhibition often comes from a place of fear, and fear can paralyze us from speaking the truth.  We're afraid to say what we mean for fear someone may criticize us.  We're afraid of being perceived as boring for fear someone may reject us.  We're afraid that our actions may be misunderstood.  Fear is a relentless hand... holding us back from being true to ourselves.  Embracing truth... exposes our nakedness and helps us to realize our greatest potential.

The Naked Blogger... dares to strip down to the bare essentials, willing to reveal oneself completely to his/her audience.  It doesn't require a lesson in pole dancing to get comfortable in your own skin.  It requires knowing and understanding who you are and remaining true to oneself.  There are plenty of exceptional writers out there who have perfected their craft.  It would be easy and tempting to emulate another's style, but authenticity comes from being true and genuine to your own style.

The Naked BloggerThe Naked Blogger... knows how to cater to his/her audience by offering bite size morsels of truth that are pleasing and tasty to the palate.  Presenting a genuine, intriguing message gives the reader good reason to come back for more.  I'm not suggesting a 'bare it all' style... some things are better meant to be privately savored.  The goal is to create a better blog by offering a down to earth, real glimpse of you without pretense or subtext.

The Naked Blogger... creates a sense of intimacy by removing potential walls that stand between you and your reader.  The Naked Blogger communicates openly, honestly, with feeling and fluency, offering a refreshingly transparent point of view combined with a genuine sense of vulnerability.

When that happens... the craving starts, the sparks will fly, and the magic begins.  That, my friends, is the reason I chose the pen name... The Naked Blogger.

Hi Mel,

You mean we should get naked and put our foot in mouth at the same time?  That takes courage, but you can't look back.  Soon after it'll all feel natural.  Nice post!

I always thought it was about transparency in the way you conduct your business.  It's clever and attention-grabbing.  When I first saw it years ago I had one of those why didn't I think of that moments.

Mel, Nice post and great way to get people to think differently on phrases and their meaning. Often meaning is a perception of one's own place and time.

Mel, for a long while, I've known what your true "nakedness" was all about. Of course the titillation of it is what sparks initial interest, but then they get to delve into the true soulfulness of you as you peel away the layers.

I am sorry that we didn't get to see one another face-to-face while down in your neck-of-the-woods. Hey, it was a shot of impromptu planning! Knowing that I wanted to get together and have you meet my wonderful hubby is enough. But, as the year slips by, there is always the beckoning of Fishhawk Lake. Remember the door is open, the light is on! Debb Janes  too. (of course).
