According to the Lewisville Leader local newspaper, Dr. Georgia Caraway is retiring today after 15 years as the Executive Director of the Denton County Museums.

Dr. Caraway has been dedicated to antiques, art, and museum history for a long time. I actually took some classes from her about 13 years ago before she took this position.  A lovely lady and a jewel in Denton County, her knowledge is astounding.

During her time in this position, Dr. Caraway helped establish Denton County ownership of the Courthouse-on-the-Square and was very instrumental in developing the Historical Park of Denton County. The Historical Park includes the Bayless-Selby House Museum and the Denton County African American Museum.  I've written blogs about both of these historical places.  Dr. Caraway has also been responsible for two historical markers placed during her tenure.

"Those were very difficult times back then," Dr. Caraway says, "but there were a lot of dedicated people who got involved, especially members of the Denton County Historical Commission and the Museum Committee, some of who has been with me the entire 13 years."

A reception honoring Caraway is scheduled for 4 - 6 p.m. this afternoon, July 15th at the Good Samaritan Village.
