Cheap wines under $10, my third post of the series

First of all, my point is, if you are a wine connoisseur than you will appreciate this post about cheap, but good red wines.  If you are just a wine snob and base wine on price only than I suggest you might want to reconsider. Price is not the only determiner of good wines. Now with that said. A favorite winery of mine is Murphy Goode. (www.Murhpygoode.com)  they make an outstanding Sauvignon Blank, so armed with this knowledge I ventured into trying their Pinot Noir. Let me tell you, what a pleasant but unexpected surprise when I tasted it. As you can see there is not one drop left in the bottle. Their 2009 vintage is really worth buying. Of course as the title of my blog post states it was under $10 a bottle.

Take my word try it, you will not regret it!

Now if you prefer a more robust full bodied red wine over the Pinot Noir. I have the ultimate Red Zinfandel under $7.00 a bottle. Hard to believe, but if you can get your hand on it buy at least five or six bottles you will not regret it, instead you will thank me. Renwood Winery Produces ( www.renwood.com)  this outstanding wine.

I have had quite a few Zin in the price point north of $20 a bottle and I would match this in a blind taste testing any day!

So after you had a tough day of negotiating Real Estate I recommend any one of these great wines. So with that said Enjoy!

In case you missed my previous two posts: One I wrote on May 15th 2011, here it is for your convenience http://actvra.in/9PR (my second in the series of Cheap but good wines)

And of course the first that started this series being frugal is fashionable 12/30/2009 http://actvra.in/f4Q

Endre, 15% alcohol in the Zin?  I'm used to seeing 13s in the Malbec's Liz favors, so that's some extra kick!

Gwen, let me know how you liked it:)

Liz & Bill in my experience I found once they are over 13.5% usually the flavors are more pronounced. This one is very smooth, very delicious:)

I am no connoisseur, but I do love a glass of red... Two of my favorites, Pinot Noir and old vine Zinfandel. Also, I'm a bargain hunter and love discovering wines I haven't seen before. There are a lot of very good wines under $10 a bottle. I love finding them when they're being introduced to a new market. As a Frenchman once said, "You can't live on bread alone." Salute!

Great information, Endre.  Today, we're spending the searching for a new wine cooler/fridge.  Our other one "died."  Husband's scouring the stores while I'm on line.  Any suggestions?  We just need a smaller one - 24" by 24" by 36".  About a 20-25 bottle capacity.  Fits under the bar/countertop.  I found a Danby on line from Home Depot.  And, we're checking out Avanti.  Don't want to spend a whole lot, but don't want cheap, fall apart either.

Juli, the most important part is you want to make sure it is not one that is too loud, otherwise you have to drink more at night so you do not hear the machine:))

Interesting finds, Endre. I will have to look out for them and give them a try. I'm not really a red wine person but occasionally I will give it a try.

Endre - LOL at the loud wine coolers.  We had one of those and it drove hubby batty.  I, on the other hand, never really noticed it (especially after my second glass - LOL).

Endre ... I like your article about cheap and good wines under $10 per bottle and need to try out your suggestion of the "Murphy Goode" Pinot Noir.  We enjoy good wines like other people and are always looking for value.

Endre, I'm not a particular fan of Pinot Noir but with your recommendation I may just try the Murphy-Goode label.

Endre, you are absolutely correct that price isn't necessarily an indicator of quality.  I've also had $100+ bottles of wine that were (at least in my opinion) no better than a $15-$20 bottle.

Nick you are so right there are many truly great wines that are in the high teens and I would match them against the $100 plus wines. Next time I will do a post about one of those wines:))

Cheap but good wines found at Costco:

Menage a Trois -- a blend: Zinfandel from Amador, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc from Napa.

And all their Malbec wines, too.

And all their other Kirkland branded wines. I'm not a snob. Just a bargain hunter. I know it will take a heck of a lot for anything to pass the test to be featured at Costco, much less carry the Kirkland brand like their version of Chateauneuf du Pape if you can find it.

And if you're going to do a cheese feature --- check out the price for Manchego, also at Costco.

Salud!
