My Easy Way to Find Groups I Like on AR

I am always surprised by the number of AR bloggers who do not click their blogs into groups. Perhaps, they are unaware of this feature or do not know how to do it.

Or, more likely too, is how does one ever pick a group from the 7628 groups that are available? . Have you ever tried to search the groups for one that you might like to join? Do you have the time to scroll through over 7000 groups and the included over 302 pages?Browser groups

I would like to think  that as a blogger, you are trying to get some kind of information or message out to your readership. It may be as explosive as  the announcement of the cancer cure or as humble as a Zen photo of peace and tranquility. But unless this sharing goes out and gets to your readership, what is the point? Then it becomes, at best, a solitary, creative outlet.

So the point is that the more groups you select (up to five), the more people will see your post. If you do not select any groups, the life span that your post may have on a typical day is around one hour or two, because it will only post on the Newly added blog roll, which scrolls off the page as new blogs are added.

If you post to a group that has a lot of subscribers and posts, i.e. “Newbies,” then your chances of being seen/read by more people are greater. But there is also a lot of movement on that page.So there may be more eyeballs, but with a shorter time span. If you search out a group that has fewer members and posts, your blog will stay longer on that front page. It may not have as many eyeballs all at once, but may make up for it in the long run.

The solution is to align yourself with groups that you enjoy and have an interest in pursuing and perusing. And how does one find that group, with so many choices to choose from?

Posted GroupsWhat I have started to do is easy. When I come across blogs that I like, as I scroll down to make a comment, I pass the section that shows the groups that this blog was posted to. At this point you can click the link to that group, and read why they have formed that particular group and what the guidelines are. This is important, because you want to follow their guidelines and not be posting to a group that does not appreciate what you are communicating.

While you are there, you can hit the ‘Join Group” button if it appears to you that you would enjoy reading and posting to that group.

In this way, I have started to join a lot more groups and I have found some groups that I never would have thought existed. There really are a lot of places to see on ActiveRain. Go explore!

I enjoyed the post Sandy. I was going through some of my old posts and noticed that I was one of those that didn't post to many groups when I first started here. I think that the newbies will benefit from hearing what you have to say.

Sandy * I actually cruised through the AR groups when I first joined - about 6000+ then and at least 1,000 have less than 5 members.  Seeing groups where GOOD posts are placed is a GREAT way to find groups that might be interested in your posts!

If you put a blog post in say the Active Rain SEO that has nothing to do with the topic though, whoa, does that mess up the finding what you need, getting in and out and back on the road process for researching a topic, subject. Like a library where you wonder, who put the kids book on chia pet care in the literary greats catagory with Plato?

I have started noticing this, too. Another cool tip is when there are bloggers I enjoy reading, I focus on their reblog selections and frequently pick one for the day they have also selected. There is a reason I enjoy their blog so this is a natural way to find some good topics to share. That's my extra tip for the day!

Hi Tom, Thanks for the kind words. I wonder if you can go back and add them to more posts?

You are brave, Wallace, to go through that. I would be so bored and then they would all run together.

So true Andrew. That s why I advise reading what the group is about first and follow their guidelines. I hate when I see that someone has either not read the guidelines of the group or has ignored it totally.

Hi Peg, And I've discovered some that are here that I would think would be here at all.

Thank you, Brenda. I appreciate that!

That is a great idea and a good tip Cheryl! Thanks for contributing!

I also got some of the Groups i joined from my friends posts, and you are right it is a big advantage when you post your blog in a group, more exposure and more bloggers can read your article, when you dont publish it with groups your missing a lot of audience. Great post Sandy!

Sandy there are some many groups, you just about have to go on an exploration to find out about them.  But's that's okay because then it's kind of like an adventure.
