Do You Know What Your Pets Are Up To When Your Not Home?

By
Real Estate Agent with Integrity Real Estate Group

Stupid Pet Tricks and Real Estate ShowingsIt seemed as if it would be an easy showing. The instructions said to call the owner first so they could crate the dog. We had a pleasant conversation, gave them a time-frame and they said they would vacate the house so we could have it to ourselves. You have to love sellers who understand the process.

We arrive at our appointed time and just to make sure the owners are gone I knock on the door. From deep inside the house I hear the dog bark followed by a "shut up". Figuring that the owners hadn't left yet I wait a bit and then knock again. The dog barks and the same voice responds "shut up." Okay this is annoying why aren't they answering the door?

So cautiously I open the door and say "hello". A voice from the back of the house says "hello" but no one appears. Alright I guess they aren't leaving and we are going to head on in. As we pass through the foyer keeping an eye out for the owners the dog barks again and when we hear the little voice say "shut up" we realize that it sounds more like a child than an adult. Now I'm worried that the parents have gone and left a child behind.

Stupid Pet Tricks and Real Estate ShowingsAs we round the corner to the dining room we find our little voice. It is a PARROT! Sure enough the dog barks again and looking us right in the eye the parrot says "shut up." Go figure. I guess it is a good thing the owners don't swear like sailors!

Just proves you never know what you will find when you head out to show a house. And it did give us a laugh at the end of a long day.

That's an instant Realtor classic story.  I might have made a video of it just to have on tape.  Cute.

Chris Ann-unfortunately this was before I carried my video camera every where otherwise I would have run to the car and grabbed it.

Cindy, that's too funny!  You probably had to be careful what you said so the parrot wouldn't repeat the same thing to the owners when they came home.

Trang-thanks for stopping by.  I will admit we were cautious just in case the parrot decided to mimic us too.

Cindy- Too cute. i showed a home once where they had something rigged up that when the door opened a dog bark was heard. I was instructed how to turn off and then on before I left. that was a first for me. I think I would have enjoyed the dog and the parrot more. :0)

Wow, Cindy!  It's fortunate we don't have a parrot.  When we get home to the lastest chaos from Willie the Labradoodle, I hate to think what the bird would say.

Cindy - birds say the strangest things ..... we once had a budgie that my hubby taught to wolf whistle and say hello turkey ..... the bird took it one step farther and always greeted him with a hello turkey as he walked by ..... and a pretty lady with a wolf whistle ..... go figure

Kathy-that's great.  I've never owned a bird but suspect I wouldn't teach it the best manners.

Too funny! We had a parrot once that would say Hello whenever the phone rang. She also knew all the verses to Hello Dolly and would sing along with us.
