Paying it forward- with a little granddog sitting.

It's not easy when my daughter's dog comes to visit.  She is very Anti-social (not sure how this happened), and our two dogs and three cats are all upset when Lexi gets here.  They take getting along by moments, but mostly it's like being in a cafeteria full of fifth graders during a food fight.

BUT because I love my daughter... last Wednesday I let her drop off Lexi so she could take a mini vacation.  Abigail started her first "grown-up" job last October and next month she will not only be working full time, but will once again become a full time student as well.  And besides her full time job as an EMT she also works part time on her off days in another county and is a volunteer firefighter in yet another county.  (Perhaps she takes after her mama a little too much)

Tonight I was super happy when she came to pick Lexi up.  Two of my cats are still hiding and it will take them a few days to realize she is gone and come out from hiding.  It will also take Glen and Laney a couple of days to forget the extra hyper activity they have picked up from Lexi over the past few days.

I'm really looking forward to being able to watch television without a bark attack anytime a cat, dog, bird, talking egg, baby ect... is on the screen.  And Abigail was really happy to see Lexi and Lexi to see Abigail.  I'm glad she got to have a little vacation, but I'm glad it's over too.

Tammy - been there done that....but it's my dog that's a diva and starts all the trouble. God knows I love my Lucy, but she is a handful around other dogs. Even though she weighs 38 pounds, she go after a Pit-bull!

Now kick back and relax knowing you gave your daughter a great gift of taking care of her dog so she could get away for a short vacation - you are such a good mom!

I hear you! Sounds like grandkids or at least the old grandparent adage regarding grandchildren, "I am happy to see them and I am happy to say, "good-bye."' The older I get the more I appreciate calm and quiet. It is why we have a cat rather than a barking dog.

Cal- we got into the "dog" business three and half years ago... because my husband wanted one (I was a confirmed cat lady) then the second dog just showed up at my office uninvited, but hurt and totally sweet (who would resisit that), so Glen and Laney the Great Dane mix and the black lab moved in with us and the three cats.  At three and nearly 4 years old respectively they are pretty calm these days.  (until the grand dog comes to visit).   As for any baby.... I can't imagine being happy to see it go... until it's a smart mouth teenager maybe. LOL

Tammy- her dog barks when animals are on the screen too? My friends dog does the same thing. I was housesitting one time for them and wasn't aware of this habit. In the shower and all of a sudden I could have sworn that someone was trying to break in the house the dog was going so crazy. I hauled (thankfully not naked) butt down the stairs after grabbing a towel and it was that Sarah McLachlan animal commercial. Roxy was going nuts. Turns out she does that any time another animal of any sort comes on the screen.

Margie- thankfully I knew from previous visits.  I can not imagine your experience of being in the shower and a dog going nuts.  Lexi is an Australian Shepard what kind of dog is Roxy?

Oh I had to LOL!!! I could just imagine the mayhem...and I had to get the metaphor for what one out-of-synch creature can bring to the peaceful existence of others...

Two of your cats are still hiding . . . when I read that I was LOL'ing.  For some reason I can just see Lexi running around and them high-tailing it (literally).

I love the babysit my granddogs but I always do it at my daughter's house........one of my cats would enjoy their visit but the other two would be traumatized.  They are already a little psychotic!

They say that's the best thing about being a grandparent - sending them back home with their parents :)  Get some rest and then start planning yours and Donald's get-away.

Miss Butter and meHi, Tammy!

This is a picture of my grandpuppy, 'Miss Butter'.  She is a rescue weiner dog who survived hurricane Katrina.

I love her.

BUT, I completely understand what you are saying.......

I drove an hour and 15 mins --- each way --- to return 'Miss Butter' to my daughter on Saturday afternoon.

Two and a half-weeks was a bit too long for a visit with this grandmom.

(can't wait to see a picture of your little one!)
