Surfing in Long Island?

Surfing in Long Island?

I had such a blast yesterday at surf camp in Long Beach, Long Island.  I never knew there was even surfing in NY!  It was a great place for beginners such as me, to learn to navigate the bunny slopes of the ocean.

Lessons were $60 for a 75 minute class, or you can just rent the boards for $30 for 3 hours or so.  Parking is a feat just like in Manhattan, so allow for more time if your lesson starts at a certain time.

They provide you with a rash guard for the lesson or you can bring your own wesuit as well.  It's about an hour away from apartments in Manhattan; but can be close to 2 hours if there is heavy traffic.

Look for Skudin Surf Tent or tell the trcket taker yo uare there for surf camp.

Don't expect much in terms of ammenities.  Bring your own parasol, food is quite a hike from the surf camp tent, and there is one outdoor shower to rinse amonst the millions of people and is a good hike from the tent.

That is funny. I have never seen any of the "surfer elite" state they got their start in NY but that would make for a newsworthy story! lol

I think it is just a good training ground but child's play and abore for people that really know how to surf or go to places like Hawaii to surf.  Just a neat novelty for beginners here. :)

Hi Jennifer,

Sounds like fun.  I have never tried surfing but love the water and the ocean.  Where do I sign up?
