I am very new to Google+, but I found a way to claim my unique short Google+ URL. Follow these simple instructions and it will work for you.
First find your Google+ account USER ID
Then you need to goto http://gplus.to to register your name. (see below)

@Christine did you grab the G+ ID and paste in the entry field on the right? http://gplus.to is where you want to be.
Interesting... I did this, and it works great. Surely Google will offer vanity names just the same (at some point).
Yep... it's definitely all over the map right now. Some things working, some things not - things shifting around.

I think it worked but when I retyped it in to check it, link went no where. Now it's OK.

I tried and it says I "can't use special characters" I've written my Nickname as my actual name, no spaces, and copied by link from above in the space for User ID and it doesn't like that. Any tips?
