Someone who's never heard of Facebook? Is that even possible? Well, of course it's possible. But, let's “face” it; Facebook is hugely popular. According to USAToday, as of this month there are over 750 million active Facebook users.
Here at REVStaffing, we know that there's no denying two facts: Facebook is everywhere, and Facebook is easy. With the ability to update a Facebook status from desktops, laptops, smart phones – anywhere there's an Internet connection – the popularity of the world's leading social media site is overwhelming.
But let's say you're not familiar with Facebook; you've got to be wondering what's in it for you. With the creation of fan/business pages, Facebook has given you the opportunity to market to the world's largest audience.
Facebook is incredibly user-friendly. It updates in “real time.” And it's one of the leanest, meanest marketing tools available today. Think about it. What's the most effective way to get new business? Word-of-mouth, of course. Well, think of Facebook as word-of-mouth marketing at its finest. Many businesses are discovering that the free advertising they get on Facebook is far more effective than tens of thousands of dollars in print, radio, or television advertising.
Here is a real-world example of how this works. Susie, who's getting ready to look for a house, logs on to Facebook to look at her cousin's baby shower pictures. She's spent a lot of time looking at houses online, but she thinks it would be cool to find a local Realtor® on Facebook. It turns out that there are several, but she really likes the look of Jack's business page, so she becomes a fan. Susie starts receiving all kinds of terrific updates about real estate in and around her town.
Here's the exciting part. When Susie becomes a fan of Jack's agency, each and every one of her friends sees an update about her. The update says, “Susie likes Jack's Hometown Real Estate.” Susie's friend Cam, who is planning to buy a house soon, sees the update. He clicks on the link to Jack's page, is bowled over by what he sees, and becomes a fan of Jack. His status updates to reflect this action (just like Susie's did). Cam's friend Mike sees it and clicks...and Jack's business page is soaring. A Facebook business page can take off like gangbusters, once just a few fans have been found.
When people in your town search for local Facebook business pages, who are they finding? If you're not on Facebook, someone else is getting the fans – and the customers – that should be yours!
