Silverton Mining Claims | Strike It Rich! Six patented mining claims located in Minnehaha Basin just north of Silverton, Colorado. Guaranteed access, title insurance, warranty deed and all the minerals are included although there will be a small royalty retained if you ever decide to mine the minerals. For the true outdoor enthusiast, these properties, which are located at about 11,400 feet above sea level in the San Juan Mountains, offer views that will totally knock your socks off! A County road provides legal access although you can understand that at that elevation they do not plow it in the wintertime. Minnehaha mine tipple

It is a playground for snowmobiling, snowshoeing or the serious snowmobiler. Very private, yet there are other cabins located in Minnehaha Basin plus this land is about a mile and a half past the Silverton extreme ski resort and one basin over from where Shaun White, the United States Olympic gold medalist in snowboarding, practiced and worked out. There was even a show done on 60 Minutes about his secret workout area. If you want to use this property as cabin sites there are several very good locations that not only offer some flatland , but great views. Since these are patented mining claims no additional "assessment work" needs to be done. They have been deeded from the federal government and are privately owned property.

In order to build a cabin, there are certain rules and regulations you need to follow through San Juan County. Of course, you would need to pull a building permit. There is no electricity up at the site but several of the other cabin owners have either put in photovoltaic or propane powered electric generators. Minnehaha basin from Silverton ski area

I know one family regularly goes up there every Thanksgiving even though there is snow on the ground at that time of year. We get so many days of sunshine in this part of the state, that it is especially beautiful and truly appreciated by those who like the outdoors. If you love to go four wheeling or jeeping in the backcountry, then you will find this a terrific homebase to explore from. Miles and miles of legal off-road roads are right at your disposal. I have been jeeping there for over 30 years and there are still some roads I've never yet been on. Whether you decide to build a cabin or just pitch a tent and camp this is really special property in the center of it all. Silverton of course is that the terminus of the narrow gauge train that runs along side of the Animas River from Durango to Silverton.

I am one of the owners and must disclose that since I am a real estate broker. For more information on just understanding what mining claims are, I have written a fairly detailed article that could easily be called "mining information 101". Most buyers and sellers have found it extremely helpful over the years. Here is a link to that document: Mining Information 101

My partner and I have owned these properties since the 1970s and I couldn't tell you how many times we have brought the kids and grandkids up to the claims. Then we would just grab a rock on the side of the road and crack it open and find silver and gold and lead. Their eyes would get just as big as saucers. This is a very mineral rich area.

Many many times I have scared the deer away when I would drive my vehicle up to the property. Marmots , of course, are prevalent and every so often we will see bear and elk. Peace and quiet? It doesn't get much better than this.Minnehaha number 2

Three of the patented mining claims are serious mineral properties as well. The Minnehaha Mine has extensive tunneling already on it (at least 1000 feet I would guess) and I have assay maps that show the assay amounts for gold, silver, lead, zinc, and copper. Without counting them, I would say I have at least 100 perhaps 150 current assay figures. The mine is a dry tunnel and it does have a boarded-up entrance with a lock. There are two 10 acre claims that adjoin the Minnehaha Mine and provide very good mineral speculation. This particular area of the county is South and West of the area where Sunnyside mine was mining continuously for almost 100 years. If you know the geology of the area, it is located in the "heel" or the bottom part of the foot in what is typically called the "boot" mineralized vein located near Bonita Peak. It is South of the old Gold King and Samson mines and immediately South of the old Lead Carbonate mine. The Black Hawk mine would be South and West of this property. The price for the entire group of patented mining claims is $425,000.

I have additional pictures and maps on my website and here is a link to that: Silverton Mining Claims If patented mining claims aren't your cup of tea, we have lots of other land for sale.
