San Diego always seems to have been in the buyers mind as "the city by the sea"... When out of area buyers wander into our office in down town Del Mar or call from our web sites there seems to be an illusion that every area of San Diego is by the ocean! Oh, if it were so even a shaky market would not be a problem! We have fabulous weather - mountains, lakes, we can be water skiing at noon and skiing in Big Bear by 3:30---we have weather that no one can beat and with one drop of rain locals are hysterial.
What we dont have is every house by the sea. BUT when buyers wander into our office in downtown Del Mar and ask about coastal properties that are under the magically one million dollar mark - well I am ready with my introduction to one of my favorite area "Carlsbad". Slightly north of downtown San Diego with an ambitious four zip code offering - this busteling community has gained huge favor in the last decade as a great place to live. Ocean "view" homes can start as low these days as in the $600,000 I KNOW in coparison to a lot of the world is still "big tiket" but compared to its multi million neighbors of Cardiff, Solana Beach, Del Mar and La Jolla it is a buyers dream.
With a blend of custom and demi custom communities and a top rated School District you can't go wrong in the comfort of your purchase in any of their zip codes. 92008 and 92010 are more direct coastal with 92011, 92009 just a smidge further inland but still not more than 20 minutes for the Pacific sand. The beaches of Carlsbad with their expansive white sand and inviting boardwalk are comparable to none and sunset brings skateboardes, jggers, dog walkers and just plain lucky folks that live in the area out for another perfect evening.
If you are considering a move to San Diego do not miss the opportunity to familiarize yourself with this area...it's one of our secret - well not so secret anynmore- communities that make this city one of a kind! If you are considering needing to see - we feel bad for you - but we know how to make this area sound and show as special as it is!
