The other day I was working at home and listening to music being broadcast through my T.V. I had to go accompany a Home Inspector on a purchase that was in process and turned the T.V. off. When I came back a couple of hours later, I attempted to turn my LCD flatscreen on and it briefly went on and then shut off. It continued to do this until I unplugged it. After doing what is called a "Soft re-set", I plugged the T.V. back in and turned it on...... Nothing... I then got online and did a search on my type of T.V. and possible issues that this model had and to my amazement, there were hundreds of hits on this issue. I finaaly found a You-Tube video that showed me what to check for and how to fix it. I took my T.V. Apart, located the power circuit board and found that it had a bad capacitor. I went to a local electronics store and found a capacitor with the same Micro Farrad rating but they didn't have the same voltage. I needed a 1000 uf 10V cap and the smallest they had was the 1000uf 35V. I purchased it and replaced the bad one on my circuit board and re-assembled the T.V. I plugged it in and..... it worked!!! YAY!!! Now I don't have to spend another $400.00 on a T.V., the capacitor cost me $1.92 after tax. It dawned on me that hey, I have a computer monitor that had the same symptoms that is downstairs in the "Vault" (As we like to call it). It had died on me when I had some clients at the office and was showing them properties from the MLS. It just happened that the monitor was the same brand as my T.V. I took it apart and found that it too had a bad capacitor. Another $1.92 down the drain!!!..... Not really, it was definitely worth every cent! I LOVE modern technology and You-Tube and my clients can actually see the MLS listings on the monitor again and don't have to look at my laptop screen any more.... At least until the need for another capacitor arises...
