Forbes Names Austin the Next Big Boom Town

The city of Austin is growing and prospering. Forbes named Austin as the number one city to be the next big boom town in the USA. The city of Austin has consistently remained on top of Forbes' many annual lists of best cities and jobs along with many other demographic rankings. Right now Austin is the third fastest-growing city in the United States. Raleigh, North Carolina came in second on the list  as the next big boom town and Nashville, Tennessee came in third.


To determine what city would be the next big boom town, Forbes enlisted the help of Mark Schill at the Praxis Strategy Group. Schill took a look at the top 52 largest metro areas in the country. To qualify as a top metro area, the city had to have at least a population of 1 million. Job growth was the main focus that the group looked at. They considered job growth over the last two years and the past decade, and it made up one-third of the score. Two-thirds of the score was based on a wide array of demographic factors such as: family formation (percentage growth in children 5-17), growth in educated migration, population growth and, finally, a broad measurement of attractiveness to immigrants.
