Some days you just have to throw the schedule out the window!

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Richard Weisser Realty

Some days you just have to throw the schedule out the window! The real estate business is full of surprises. And because it is a “people” business, anything can happen on any given day.

So try as we might to adhere to a schedule of task and appointments, in reality some times things just happen and you have to make adjustments “on the fly.”

Which often results in a lot of catching up very late at night in a sometimes vain attempt to get the following day back on track.

Today is already starting out to be one of “those” days. I have a lot on my plate and some deadlines to meet. The heat is on.

But I can handle it. It’s what I do!

Being flexible is what a successful agent must do .. priorities take first seat and sometimes that overshadows the lovely day you lined out.  At times I feel I need to just place fireman's clothes next to my desk, jump in the suit and begin with the fires that stir for the day.  Hope your day gets back on "Your Schedule".

Richard, Fast AND Flexible, the successful real estate agents creed.  Schedule rigidity will get you slaughtered.

Hi Richard....there's nothing I detest more than to have my day interrupted.....it doesn't happen too often....I plan fairly well, but I'm also never dealing with people....only computers....

I understand what your saying. You plan the day and then something pops up that messes up the plan. but that what keeps things interesting. You never know what's going to happen.

A plan B or plan C are always a good idea.  My day too started out with a twist, now I am taking a little mental pause to regroup before I tackle the problem.

Liz & Bill #8 got it... Fast & Flexible... "That" day for me was this past Monday... Got a couple of projects I'm working on did a little homework over the weekend, had my outline, ready to go... I think I was at the office about 15 minutes when I was swept away for the whole day... I don't nearly as upset about it as I use to...

As long as you don't let the small things get to you, the day itself will be like sailing across the lake.

A little to the left and a little to the right and then to the beach.

May your sail be full

Enjoy the day

I think these kind of days are sent to me as practice in remembering that being flexible and open to change is a good thing (now I will repeat that to myself a few more times til I can smile while I say it!!) :)  Actually once I accept that my schedule is shot to pieces I can relax and go with the flow...usually.

If you are the type of person who has to have their whole day planned out, then real estate is a difficult field.  Being able to adapt and prioritize is a must.
