Google+ Potential?

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Keystone Realty RS294813

I've been checking out Google+ for two days now and I'm really starting to see that it could have a ton of potential. It's not really so much different than liking things on Facebook.  It does however create a list of things that have been +1ed instead of just posting to the wall so there may be an opportunity to appear as more of an authority on certain topics.

Where I really think it's going to be a force is with the ability to form circles instead of posting for everyone.  Facebook lists are confusing and with only about 5% of people using them they clearly aren't that popular.  With circles you can dial in your target audience without sharing information with your competition.  You can easily create as many circles as you want.  I've started to mess around with that a bit but the numbers of people on Google+ are not yet to the level of Facebook.

SEO should improve as a by-product of +1's.  I'm sure that Google will provide a bump in ranking with more +1's.  It also will feature small icons from friends that have +1ed your content.  I am wondering what sort of link love with develop from this but it's sort of like a DIGG nestled within a Facebook platform which I think is cool.

I suppose the next few weeks will really tell a bit of a tale for Google+ but if you haven't gotten on board to check it out, you should.  I have some invites so ask if you want one just give me some time to get it to you I'll be on the road all day today and in meetings tomorrow.

Just what we need, another thing to keep track of! Thanks for some insight. I've wondered about +1 but haven't taken time to figure it out, so it's always good to have pioneers who are willing to share ;)

I'm hoping for a site that combines all contact-list type sites on one page lol

It's drag and drop which is really awesome.  It gives you a huge list of your contacts (small at the moment) and then you drag and drop them into the "circles" or lists.  Couldn't be much easier.

Agreed though it's a lot to handle with everything.  To really be on top of social media you pretty much have to use them all which is really time consuming.  We'll see if this is finally googles answer to facebook.  It will have a lot more privacy - so they say.

Everyone is asking about experiences with Google +1, all with a wait a see attitude.  Much that I'd like to join them I think nows the time to just jump in.  I'll always have facebook.

Ross - I'm diving in too but haven't had as much time to figure it all out.  I'm not seeing much action yet but I think it will build.

Might be open to everyone on July 31? Invites are easy to get and have been for awhile.  People are reporting Google+ has  lost traffic since last week?  People join but not checking back in, using it.   I read the Sparks are not a hit.  That Hang Outs are a hit.

I am just not a Hang Out kind of person....

I think the numbers will built but the activity will be slow for a bit.  I do not think the facebook masses will fly to it but the tech people are going to take advantage of a social media platform linked to the biggest baddest search engine.   I think people are just figuring it out.  I haven't had too many people post updates yet which is probably why people aren't checking back as much.
