The safe landing of the Space Shuttle Atlantis on 7/21/2011 at 5:57 AM, signalled the end of an era here on the Space Coast. This 12 day flight officially ended the 30 year old shuttle program but there is renewed hope for continued success at KSC. The Atlas V rocket is undergoing safety evaluations to determine if it can be used for manned space flights. Delta rockets continue to launch payloads and Space X is quickly becoming a viable commercial launch program. NASA will now focus on deep space exploration while dealing with serious budget restraints.
