Down payment assistance in Thornton, CO provided by the Adams County Down Payment Assistance program has changed recently. Adams County can only provide down payment assistance to home buyers looking in buy a home in Thornton If they currently live in Adams County, BUT not Thornton. If you live in Thornton or outside of Adams County and you are purchasing a home in Thornton you no longer qualify to obtain down payment assistance from Adams County down payment assistance program.
There has not been any down payment assistance programs established by the City of Thornton to help home buyers with a FHA loan to replace the Adams County program. CHAC also no longer provides down payment assistance in Thornton as of 6/30/11. Thornton home buyers can still obtain down payment assistance with CHFA's Home Opener Plus and First Step programs.
Unless the city counsel approves funding for down payment assistance for the 2012 budget it appears down payment options will be limited for homes in Thornton for the foreseeable future. The lack of down payment assistance in Thornton may have an impact on sellers at the lower end of the spectrum, as first time home buyers can obtain assistance in every city surrounding Thornton (Westminster, Northglenn, Brighton, Denver, Commerce City) through Adams County Down Payment Assistance or CHAC.
