SHEEP EXHIBIT AT THE DUTCHESS COUNTY FAIRGROUNDS IN THE SUMMER.

I recently wrote about Rhinebeck as the place to be on the weekend.  Are you looking for something to do this weekend?  Well the NYS Wool and Sheep Festival will be held at the Dutchess  County-Fairgrounds in Rhinebeck.

With winter approaching it is a great time to stock up on all the useful wool items.  There will be over 350 vendors, so there is something for everyone.

Don't leave the children behind.  I am sure they will be fascinated watching the sheep get sheared, and there is even an opportunity to pet the animals.

More and more people have turn to knitting.  It is a relaxing activity for many, and even the Hollywood crowd has gotten into the act.  So I am sure the attendance will be good!

LOCATION:  Dutchess County Fairgrounds - Rhinebeck

DATE:  October 20th and 21st 2007

ADMISSION: $10  but free to children under 12

And while you are in the area there are many other things you can do.  For those interested in history you might want to check out the FDR Library in nearby Hyde Park, or try Montgomery Place, Clermont or Olana to name a few.

And as for finding places to eat you have many choices.  Because of The Culinary Institute of America located in Hyde Park we have some wonderful chefs in the area.

I hope they have a sheep to shawl competition. They are fascinating, a race from carding wool to a completed loomed shawl.

I have never been to a sheep festival. So attending one for the first time could prove to be interesting.

Jennifer, is that an "X" Rated Sheep Festival? You know naked sheep after they are sheared.  OK so it has been a long day, can you tell ....... LOL

Jennifer, that brings back memories.  I showed sheep growing up in 4-H.  It was always interesting watching them get sheared.

Jennifer, that sounds like a very interesting event. I bet it is quite an event. How about adding some pictures later of the dignified Jennifer shearing a sheep or maybe making some mittens.

This would be a great place to take the kids... especially since those under 12 get in free.  This should be a good event.  You are right knitting is very relaxing.  I never knew I would like it until I got started.

Jennifer, This sounds like a lot of fun.  And I bet they do have some beautiful handcrafted winterwear that you won't find anywhere else.

Rosario - I am sure that is probably one of the process that will be demonstrated.  Sounds like you are into making sweaters are you?

Derrick:  It is interesting.  I am sure you would find a sweater you just had to bring home.

George: I think you had a long day.  I love the freshly sheared sheep like the ones above, probably the only time I would touch them.

Marchel - I too love to watch them getting sheared, what a transformation!

Stephen - I was hoping to do that however I came down with a nasty cold so I will be home this weekend

Kimberley - Yes this would be a great family activity.  I have friends who are really into knitting so this is an event they look forward to.

Carole - You are correct, at these events you can usually find unique products.

Gena - This is a big event in the area.  I too love the sheep especially when they are sheared.

Hi Jennifer,
That would be fun for the entire family.  I've never seen a sheep sheared so I know it would be interesting for me.

YOU are an animal lover, Jennifer!  Our neighbor had a goat, and has chickens, but no sheep...they're adorable.

I was involved in 4-H as I was growing up!  This posts brings me back to those days of the county fair and my midwest roots.  I didn't live on the farm and raise animals but I did do my fair share of crocheting, sewing, baking, photography, etc for the exhibits!

Jennifer - The events you post here all have such informative variety, and they are educational too.  Do you knit also?

Cynthia - Yes this type of an event is a good opportunity for a family to spend time together.

Laurie - I love animals just can't have them in y home

Renee -Exhibiting at a fair seem to be a great pastime for the young ones.  At the Dutchess County Fair this summer I met a few of these young ones with their pets.

Diane - Needle work is a sore subject in my home, my husband can't even get a button sewn back on.  I do everything but sew or knit.

The wool and sheep festival was well attended I know this because the traffic almost made me late for a doctor's appointment.  I was disappointed I did not feel well enough to attend.  I am wishing for a frost I think I will feel much better when it gets colder like it is suppose to do.

I hope you become well enough to attend before it's over Jennifer.  Now, i do not knit, but did take sewing lessons in school and my mother taught us at home.... however, it's not practiced, and my husband sews his buttons on... isn't that something?
