Berlin - Merlbourne flights by LTU delayed by 6 weeks

The starting date for charter flights from Berlin to Melborune have been pushed back by six weeks to Dec. 15 because of poor sales in November.

The flights, arranged by Rostock, Germany-based M-Touristik, were scheduled to begin Nov. 3, but slow sales for that month led the company to begin the flights in December.

Based on economic-impact estimates provided by Melbourne International Airport and local tourism officials, the delay could mean $1.39 million fewer dollars circulating through the local economy.

Richard Ennis, executive director at Melbourne International, was unhappy not to have learned about the M-Touristik's change in flight schedule earlier.

"The delay was unexpected," Ennis said, quickly adding, "We were ready for the flights in November. We'll be just as ready in December."

The change in schedule means the weekly flights will take place over 20 weeks instead of 26 weeks.

BTW: LTU's CEO Jürgen Marbach likes to spend his vacation in Bradenton, FL. Maybe LTU should add a weekly direct flight to Sarasota-Bradenton instead.
