TGIF! This is a particularly big Friday for events, because this is the first day of the 30th Annual W.C. Handy Music Festival. There are so many events scheduled for the Handy Fest, there is no way I can include all of them here. Instead, go check out the full schedule online. There’s a link at the bottom to print out a schedule if you like.

If you get up really early, you can enjoy coffee and donuts as anglers for the Wal-Mart FLW Tour Major take off at McFarland Park at 5 a.m. from McFarland Park. It is free, and for more information call 256-740-4141. You can go back at 2:30 to see the weigh-in.

At noon, you can hear Hugh Banks & Caleb Banks at McGraw’s Coffee House. Enjoy lunch while you’re there or get a goodie, then take a stroll through the Artisan Gallery that is on-site.

The Pickwick Belle riverboat is cruising on the Tennessee River! Cruise along on an authentic paddle wheel riverboat and take in all the beautiful sights the area has to offer! Spend the afternoon from 1:30-3 p.m. relaxing on the water. It docks at McFarland Park and the cost is $20 plus tax/person. Go to www.pickwickbelle.com or call 1-877-936-2355 for more information.

Gloria Hester is having an Integrative Yoga Therapy Weekend, “Restoring the Wisdom of the Body”, at Shoals Yoga from 6-9pm today through the 24th. Call 256-702-3022 or email info@shoalsyoga.com for more information.

Tonight is another performance for Guys and Dolls at the Ritz in Sheffield and for Willy Wonka at the Shoals Theatre in Florence.

Of course, the big event today is the Courtin’ the Blues kickoff parade at 7pm on Court St. in Florence. Come on out and enjoy the music and the festival atmosphere to get in the mood for the rest of the week!

Adults Singles (55 & above) bring Don Harriman’s “It Is What It Is” to their July 22 event - 7pm at the Teen Center on the Cross Point Church of Christ campus.  Come early and join us. Don is a former faculty member of Mars Hill Bible School and an adjunct faculty member at International Bible College. He has served in full time and part time ministry positions for many years in California and Alabama and specialized in Single Adult Ministry for 20 years.  Bring a friend, finger food and enjoy the evening.   For additional info call Gatha Crowson at 256-767-1958 or IamGatha@gmail.com.
