Personal Branding - How do you differentiate yourself?

By
Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Unlimited Real Estate

I attended an Agent Education Conference this week in Boston and one of the speakers was Robert Allan Paul from Cuneo Advertising. He did a session on Building Your Personal Brand. Many of the principles were things I have learned before and haven't fully put into action.....yet. In this slower market I feel personal differentiation is important in addition to taking full advantage of the branding/marketing our companies do.

Aside from the differentiation because of market area (beach front, lake front, city specialist, etc) or clients served (1st time home buyers, relocation specialist, seniors, etc), has anyone tried a different approach? Focusing more on your personal style, likes and dislikes? I know that people prefer to do business with people they like or people who are similar to them. How much of you do you put in your personal branding, so you are not lost in the crowd?

Good morning Pamela,  Good point to ask how we market ourselves personally.  I guess I do some of it on my site but overall pretty lame.

Thanks for the comment Bill, I've been thinking of becoming very specific/narrow with the clients I want to serve and focusing my marketing (website, post cards, e-newsletters, etc), toward that audience. Logically it makes sense...emotionally it is very scary!

One way to brand yourself is to sell yourself online using VideoFaces. It is a borderless virtual spokesperson where you can stand out fromt the crowd and walk on to your own website. Check it out at http://www.videofaces.com

Thanks Suz! Great personal touch and something I haven't seen very much in our area!

A great way to differentiate yourself is by using SendOutCards to send custom greeting cards. You can upload photos and even get your handwriting scanned in so it looks handwritten. See my profile for details.

Hi Suz, I'm in Fairfield county CT, very close to the New York border. In another month or 2 I will wish I were in Atlanta!

Carlos, I have a SendOutCards account. I have used it for a "Don't forget" event and thank you notes after a listing appointment etc. My understanding is that other Realtors have designed very nice (and customized) campaigns to keep in touch with their clients. I need to get on the ball, thanks for the reminder.
