Weekends start early around here. At 5 am, you can enjoy coffee and donuts (sponsored by Folgers) as anglers for the Wal-Mart FLW Tour Major take off at McFarland Park. The tour is also sponsoring a Fun Zone and Pets and Pros from noon to 4 pm at Wal-Mart in Florence, followed by the weigh-in by the competitors at 4.

The Florence-Lauderdale County Farmer’s Market, at the  intersection of Chisholm Road and Cox Creek Parkway is open from 6- noon. Fresh, Shoals-grown produce including mustard greens, turnip greens, collards, poke salad, onions, tomatoes, potatoes, strawberries, etc. will be available.

The Jack-O-Lantern Farms Greenhouses Indoor Farmers Market is also open today from 9-2, across from the old Holiday Inn in Sheffield. Items available include hydroponically grown vegetables, Amish sweet cream butter, local honey, Shoals Culinary Center products, freshly baked breads, and a variety of local fruits and vegetables, homemade jams & jellies, and fried pies.

Sweet Deliveries in Muscle Shoals is sponsoring a show by Rick Rush, an artist who hsa painted some of the greatest sporting events over the last three decades. Show focusing on Alabama and Auburn customers. Books available. The show is from 10 am to 2 pm, and has no admission charge.

Summer Sightseeing Cruise – Come aboard for a relaxing cruise on the Tennessee River! Underwood-Petersville Volunteer Fire Department is hosting a fish fry from 2-7 pm. Plates are $9 for adults and $5 for kids 8 and under. They have carry-out available. Go get some fish…you’ll help support a worthy organization and you won’t have to cook dinner!

Guys and Dolls continues tonight at the Ritz in Sheffield, with additional performances next Thursday and Friday. The Gingerbread Playhouse of Shoals Community Theatre has a performance of Willy Wonka tonight at the Shoals Theatre in Florence. Only one more performance for them tomorrow!
