We're Having a Heat Wave... and... It's Too Darn Hot
Summer is here with a vengeance. The temperatures in Connecticut yesterday went over 100 degrees, and the heat index made it feel more like a July day in Dallas than anything I've ever experienced here in the Northeast.
So all this heat has made me think of... a bit of music!
Here, courtesy of The Muppets - and featuring the ever-sultry Miss Piggy - is that old favorite, We're Having a Heat Wave:
And since a heat wave inevitably has its affect on all us humans, here's a very jazzy rendition of It's Too Darn Hot:
All this sultry music isn't likely to cool us down, but at least we can have some enjoyment from the topic - uh - tropic - of heat.
We're Having a Heat Wave... and... It's Too Darn Hot
I keep clippings of mountains and snow (I'm an avid snow-skier) posted everywhere to help me with "thinking cool" during these (overly) hot summer months. [DISCLAIMER: It only helps mentally, not physically.]
Hi Ginny - Glad you liked them. The way this heat crashed down on us, I feel like I'm in that Twilight Zone episode where the woman is a painter, and all the paint starts melting and dripping off her finished canvases... Yuck!
Hi Barbara - Thank you. I'm lucky enough to working with a client on sorting and packing, all indoors in a nice air-conditioned home. A cool shower after the day is over also helps. I hope you find ways to stay cool, too.
Hi Michele - It sounds like you found a good way to cool off and relax at the same time. Well done!
Hi Mike - Sometimes those mini-breaks - even if they're only visual/mental - really can help. Stay cool!
That is so funny. I've been singing that song the last few days - the Cole Porter one, of course. I have to say he was really ahead of his time. i think this song is from 1948.
Hi Debbie - These old standards do stick in our heads, don't they? To me, that's the epitome of good songwriting. You're right about that date. Cole Porter wrote this for the musical Kiss Me, Kate in 1948, which won the first Tony Award presented for Best Musical in 1949.
Judy - I hear ya - we've had the same weather and being outside for anymore than an hour and I have to go inside and drink cold water and sit down - this is some of the hottest weather we've had. Love the video!
I hear you. Our heat wave started last Saturday, and the heat and humidity put us as high as 117 on some days. Then we got a lovely day on Thursday, Then yesterday and today back into the soup. This must be global warming.......
Hi Kristine - I am fuul of admiration that you can actually be outside for an entire hour in this weather! I wilted just going from my client's home to my car, which was baking in the sun and took about twenty minutes of driving with the AC on full blast to bring it to a more humanly tolerable temperature.
I'm glad you liked the videos. Stay cool!
Hi Ron - Yikes! 117 degrees is awful. I think a lot of the crazy weather patterns we've been seeing are due to global warming.
Love the "Kiss Me Kate" video Judy............excellent stuff, love jazz and the dance sequence.
It was absolutley crazy up here in New England yesterday. Looks like tomorrow things will start looking better.
Ah Miss Piggy that little tart. It is brutal on LI too. I get up at 6 a.m to water my flowers. I'm sure my neighbors just love seeing me out there in my pj's.
Hi Roger - It really looked like a great production of Kiss Me, Kate, didn't it? They were sure giving off quite a bit of heat there...
Hi Roy - I imagine it's not a lot cooler where you are, so make sure you keep cool, too!
Hi Valerie - Our iced tea pitcher is getting a good workout, here, too. Your plan sounds perfect for this weather.
Hi John - I couldn't agree more! When it's hotter in CT than in Florida, there's just something wrong there...
Hi Liz - She IS a little tarty, isn't she? All part of her charm. I confess that I'm sometimes out there in my pj's as well, trying to get the flowers to hang on in this heat. They soak the water up so quickly it just disappears.
