Craig's Week in Tech - Newsletter
July 23, 2011 - Volume 1, Issue 8
WelcomeWelcome to the 8th Issue of my weekly newsletter. I've been getting great feedback and so glad that you are all enjoying it. I've got my radar up all week for interesting stories. I monitor twitter, RSS, FB, and now Google+! Don't worry you don't have to digest it all in one setting. Pick the interesting links, come back for more later if you need more time :) Here's previous five issues in case you missed...
Issue 3 :: Issue 4 :: Issue 5 :: Issue 6 :: Issue 7
Google+ iPhone AppGoogle+ app for android was available from the first day, now finally, iPhone users can get the app as well. Any phone can do google+ in a browser window, but the experience is better in app form. The mobile app also adds the huddle feature. Also, the android has the advantage of instant uploads for your photos. Find out more and get the apps on the google+ mobile page
School ZoneWe had two great webinars yesterday with several modules improving your blog posts, to understanding outside blogs, to google analytics to google+. Be sure to sign up for future webinar notifications, if you want to catch future ones (I'm covering all sorts of themes). I will record the classes at some point soon as I know it is hard for everyone to attend at the time that works for me. Meanwhile, the interaction of the live sessions I do like very much. The hours go so fast, wish we had more time!
Craig's Classroom DailyI use the paper.li free service to gather all the links that those in my twitter tech sphere share daily. It puts it into a nice "newspaper" like format. It is impossible to catch all the tweets as they fly by. This is a great recap of info. I often find articles there that I then share with you here! You can also get great ideas of who you might want to follow on twitter. This page updates daily too in case you want to bookmark it. Craig's Classroom Daily
Video Talent ContestThe VBloggers group is hosting a talent contest where you also get to practice your video blogging skills! AR is sponsoring some prizes for the winners. You can find out more info on Stacey Smith's 1st Annual ActiveRain Talent Competition post. The contest ends Sept 15, so get your video cameras out and your thinking caps on!
Photosynth GalleryOne of our talented ActiveRain photographers has been busy building a photosynth gallery of 360 degree virtual photo tours. Go over and check out Andre Aragon's Photosynth Gallery page Be sure and go to full screen mode via the button also, it is very cool! Afterward, be sure to head over to Andre's blog and tell him what a great job he has done with these! :) Either Andre or I (or both) will be blogging on this topic soon, how to do these, stay tuned...
OS X 10.7 Lion DebutFor those watching Mac news, you'll know that OS X 10.7 "Lion" came out this week. If you want to find out more about what is new, you can find out lots on the Apple's what's-new page and also you can check out David Pogue's NY Times article. As always, before jumping into a new upgrade, it is good to watch for comments others are making if went smooth or any problems. Google+ in your tech circles will give you lots of feedback!
Zillow NewsZillow made a big splash this week in their IPO. Speaking of Zillow, did you see Brad Anderson's post telling us how Postlet Pro version is now free to use. Check out Brad's post for a whole list of features now that can be used for your advantage in marketing your listings.
Inman Innovator Awards FinalistsThis week we saw the posting of the finalists in the Inman 2011 Innovator Awards. The winners will be announced during the Real Estate Connect conference in SF from July 27-29. Meanwhile in the finalists list I found an app that looks very interesting to me and I can't wait to check it out! Floor plans from photos on an iPhone app - Sensopia MagicPlan If you get to try it out before I do, please come back and post a link on this post so I can see it!
