I love bookstores and Borders has always been my favorite. I’ve spent many an hour curled up in one of their comfy chairs with a stack of books beside me, taking my time to make selections. The staff was always courteous and helpful and encouraged my loitering. It was the perfect place for a lazy afternoon or a great spot to meet friends for a cup of coffee and a chat. It wasn’t just about the books, it was a place to go.
Our Borders closed last fall and I do miss the bookstore. Before you know it, all of the bookstores will be gone and we will be reading on a Kindle. I personally don't like the Kindle. There is something about a book and turning the pages!
I like my kindle, but agree that there is something special about holding a book.
I hardly ever get to a bookstore, so I'm not sure what's going on. Is this a national closing of the chain, or local?
When Borders on Michigan Ave closed I knew there was a problem. The Kindle, Nook and IPad are the reason I would say, even for things like maps, magazines, etc. But you know, when you can buy a new release on them for $9.99 or less and at the bookstore it is $26 you can't blame people. Plus the local library is always swamped!
I cruise our local B&N for books on CDs and for new releases in paperback. I L♥VE their coffee table books; however, my coffee table is already full so I like to look at the pictures!
Ours was right next to an Olive Garden which was perfect ! The wait for a table often is between 30-45 minutes and everyone would go over to Borders with their pager!!!
