It's about the client!!

Picture this.....you're a 1st time homebuyer about to walk into a room to sign papers and commit yourself to a huge mortgage.  You're nervous, you're excited, probably a little intimidated.

The settlement agent, the REALTORs and the loan officer all know one another.  You're getting a little more anxious.  The only person you know is the REALTOR.  This is it....now or never...time to take the plunge.

Blink a couple of times....you're back in your normal role.  What is your job?  My job is to be there to handhold my buyers....to reassure them that everything is ok.   My job is not to spend the hour making idle chitchat with the other professionals in the room.  It's not to answer my phone during the closing.  Has that happened to you?  Or are you guilty of that??

Nothing is more aggravating than forgetting who the transaction is about.  I choose the location of the closing to accomodate my clients.  I leave my phone in the car so I won't be distracted during their time.  I limit the chatter to the very beginning.

In short, it's about the client, stupid!

Good point Nancy, I totall agree with you that it is about the client, but it bothers me that you say the only person the client knows is the agent, in my opinion the client should have just as good of relationship with the realtor as the loan officer. But it is true we have to help our client feels relax and happy about his/her decission.

Agreed Nancy!  Most clients need that reassurance and it's our job to provide it to the very end.  I always try to give my clients my undivided attention.  It's a matter of courtesy.

Well said and I can not agree more. It amazes me when I am on the listing side anf the buyer'a agent is all over the place, running out the door to to take a call instead of taking care of the clients. As a buyers agent I keep my full attention on my clients.

Jose, I think the buyer does have a relationship with the lender.  But as the agent, I think I spend much more time with them.  I could have written that a little better.

Thanks Lisa.  Sounds like we'd have a great closing together.

Samuel~Thanks...we don't get paid unless our clients buy or sell a home...it's about them1

Nancy:

At closing and at every other step of the way, its about the client.  Too much ego in real estate for many to see that.
