BOOK REVIEW
'WATER FOR ELEPHANTS' by Sara Gruen
If you don't follow my Blog, then let me just start out by saying...
I don't have a favorite author, but I do have a few that I really like. I'm alway's open to suggestions, so if you've read a book that you just couldn't put down until you finished it...PLEASE, let me know!!!
'Water for Elephants' was recommended to me by a friend who is a member of a local book club. It is a New York Times Bestseller and a movie has also been released based on the novel. I haven't yet seen the movie, but as soon as I see it at the Redbox...I'll be renting it for sure.
The story is 'one-of-a-kind' in my opinion and spans the life of the main character 'Jacob'. You know the old saying, "I think I'll runaway and join the Circus"...? Well, that's EXACTLY what Jacob did when he tragically found himself without a family and no money.
If you are an animal lover, as I AM, parts of this story will bring you to tears and make you VERY angry! But, hang tight, because out of most of the 'bad' comes some 'good'. The timeframe of the novel is around the Great Depression, so the Circus life was not for the weak-hearted. These people worked very hard for very little....but, the show must go on!
The book has it all...tragedy, adventure and romance. I highly recommend 'Water for Elephants' to those of you looking for a story that will grab hold of your heart. Warning: Make sure you have a box of kleenex handy while reading!
The next book on my list to read is 'Shanghai Girls' by Lisa See.
