I'm moving to Issaquah, Washington where I'll begin my real estate career. Ugh... the packing continues. I just purchased this new house in February, and swore that I wouldn't be moving again! But upon further reflection over the events of the past year - in particular my bout with a rare throat cancer - I decided to go where I've always wanted to be. (I'm renting out the home, which thanks to the extremely tight rental market in Austin, Texas, this was easy.)
I've never moved such a long distance before, so this move is a bit more complicated. What has been most difficult, is figuring out how to move my pets - my cat "Greta" and a pet bird - a Cockatiel named "Pepper" who I've had for over 15 years.
Moving a pet bird long distance is almost impossible, which I knew before deciding to move. For those who may be unaware, pet birds do not handle stress well, and Cockatiels are very susceptible to seizures, or even heart attacks as a result. Additionally, I knew I would have less time to spend with Pepper, and I would have a difficult time explaining to my real estate clients the loud squaking over the phone! So, I made the decision to find him a new home.
Moving cats and dogs is easier - but unless you are willing to travel cross-country with them in a car and hotel rooms, air travel is the only option. And, unless you want to handle the logistics of pet air travel on your own, it is VERY expensive. Since my cat is an important part of our family, I've decided to go the easiest route and hire a professional pet moving company called "Air Animal" - and I hope this goes well. I'll admit, I'm nervous about it.
Anyway... while packing today, I placed Greta's temporary home during her flight to Seattle on top of some boxes. To my surprise and amusement, she climbed up the boxes and made herself at home. Check out the picture below. LOL... I'm glad she feels comfy in her "sky kennel," but I serously doubt she has any idea of what's to come. She hates to travel!
