Are you too serious?

By
Commercial Real Estate Agent

Isn't it great when you receive 400 comments in one day on a meaningless blog?

Or even better when you get 3 transactions started in one day based on a previous interaction with one individual?

Have you ever wondered why when you are on vacation you receive more calls and typically do more business than when you are trying?

 Higher Mountains

For some reason this has happened to me so many times now that I am not surprised by it but am excited and happy to share the comedy with the world.  I'm convinced your clients can sense the dollar signs in your eyes if you are trying too hard.  I'm convinced that if you are presenting something of value and you have become their "trusted advisor" instead of their agent.....no matter what you present they will call you back.

It may not be when you expected it.....but they will recognize your efforts and make contact with you to reestablish the relationship or the transaction.

When I first started in the industry my parents introduced me to their life insurance salesman.  A decorated salesman.....a very successful one........absolutely the best person to learn sales from.  He told me the only secret to sales....the only one that matters.  Be the trusted advisor......if your client was in a foxhole would he want you in that foxhole watching his back?  If not, how do you get there?  Do what you need to do to become that person for all of your clients and your success will be sure to follow......quickly.

Thanks Pete.....you have helped me a ton even with a short word or two.  Thanks for the advice and thanks for the jumpstart......it is working and will continue as long as I remember the one secret.

Good advice. It is a standing joke between me and one of my agents about her going on vacation so can she can get a contract or two :)

You are so right that the customer's can sense that we are trying too hard that it will make them back off. But if you show them that you could leave a deal and show them why it may not be good for them, you will have them for life and receive referrals from them.

hi ryan...exactly... love your post...this one is not so meaningless...I can spot sincerity in someone as a consumer...so I am certain someone can spot it in me. I am sincere and invested in my people..and ( I call them my people :)  and you are so right, it can't be all about the dollar signs, because you do care the dollars come anyway

Ryan, you're definitely onto something.  No one likes a person who tries too hard, because it seems needy.  Specifically, it looks like they're too interested in their own goals, and not enough in the customer's.

Ryan, I appreciate this post. I think I take things too seriously. How does one lighten up if its your nature to be serious?  Now that's notoriety to receive 400 comments one 1 blog, more than one means you are popular and definitely know something I don't. So, I will likely be studyng your blogs off and on for awhile.

Thats the truth Ryan. We should become a free resource of real estate knowledge in the eye of the consumer.

Appreciate all of your good words and appreciation for the post......the secret to 400 comments is that I've never had it.....but when you post it so that it shows prior to people clicking on the whole blog it is likely they will read and post to it anyway!!!!

Good luck

That was a very wise saleman indeed! Do you still talk to this person on a regular basis? If not it sounds like you should be, he may have more wisdom that just that for you.
