Soccer in the US

While many in the US are getting ready for the World Series, the World is looking a bit further ahead.  While Soccer is still only the 5th largest sport in the US, it is the unmistakable leader in the world.

The world is anxiously looking three years into the future to the 2010 World Cup to be hosted in South Africa.  This is the stage for soccer.  Anxious anticipation.  Waiting it out.  Soccer is the true sport of Anticipation with the finess that far exceeds that of Baseball.  The World is willing to wait 4 years to see the greatest compete on the world stage.

While the The World Series is inclusive of the best players in the world that have had the priviledge of playing in a single league, the World Series is an opportunity for players from any qualifying country to bring its best no matter what league they play for.

The US has had its opportunities squandered in the recent months.  With the investment in Beckham and his appearance in only 3 games.  With the Hope Solo catastrophe.  With the loss of what had the potential to be the "new face of Women's Soccer" - Heather Mitts (and what a face it is).

Mitts

What is the future for US Soccer. With the phenomally bad press this year, what direction will the US Soccer community be in to compete at the international level?

This is a sport that has taken the hearts of our youth and will be the future sport that is more than noteworthy. But with noone to support and emulate, is there a professional future for the sport in the US.

Even with the bad press, I would venture that if there were a commodoties futures sold on the market for soccer - it would be worth the investment of time and money.
