Wordless Wednesday...Wayward Wildlife

When you leave your doors open, you just never know who might drop in.

Chickadee on Ceiling Fan Blade

Coincidence? I think not...

Chickadee on Tiffany Swag with Birdhouse

This little guy was sure the bag of birdseed behind him was "Self-Serve."

Red Squirrel In The Kitchen

This female cardinal tried out a number of perches in our garage, but wasn't happy with the accomodations. She squawked the whole time and eventually left...in a huff.

Hi John,

Looks like you have plenty of "pets" to keep you company. Now as long as they don't leave you little "presents " as a reminder they were there. LOL

Hi Andrea - They were watching the movie too? That is too funny! Yes, we do have an open door policy in the kitchen. Can't figure out how to screen the french doors. Yeah, we love the critters.

Hi Clint - We are fortunate to live somewhat close to a business district and still have that "out in the country" feel. The animals over here are abundant and we enjoy them all!

Good Morning Carol - This post is all about having your camera close at all times. You just never know when an opportunity will come along.

Not sure I would as comfortable with the open door policy as you seem to be, but enjoyed the photos just the same. Thanks for sharing. Enjoy the day!

Hi Marco - Although we have a couple of birdhouses in the yard, this one was more decorative than functional, so we hung it from the swag chain to a tiffany fixture. There is another photo I didn't post of the chickadee on the chain and our linx point siamese looking up at him.

Harry - You are right on with that analogy. We have to be prepared for anything that comes our way. Have a great Wednesday!

Hi Wayne - Glad you stopped by. The critters are just so entertaining. Some day I suppose I will screen the doors, but then I might miss out on some really good blog fodder :-)

Hi John, What great pics! I love the one of the bird  above the birdhouse..guess the little guy figured the house was his. Now my squirrels would do the same thing if I left my doors open and had a bag of seed close by. My hubby puts up with my love of birds..but if them and the squirrels started coming into the house, this would not be a good thing. I of course would think it was just fine if they didn't make it a habit :)

Hi Cindy - Above the birdhouse? You couldn't make that happen for any amount of money!!! Once a squirrel figures out a free meal, they will be back, so we had to lock up the birdseed and close the door for a few days. We have house wren tenants in the back yard right now that seem to come back year after year. I just love having the wildlife around! I'll be over for Where Is It Wednesday in a bit!

What the heck?  Do you have Snow White living with you or something?  It's like a Disney movie over there.  Do the animals sing and do house chores?

Hi Sharon - Laughing too hard to reply! Its like this in Portsmouth isn't it? Like the country cousins? Still working on the house chore part. HaHa

John, you have some cute photos!    I remember showing a home last summer where birds had found their way into a home, and green bird "stuff" everywhere in the home, and was pretty gross!    Never seen a raccoon in a home!

John, you've given me smiles of joy and laughter! I also had birds fly into my house and have taken photos of them on the lamp or curtains, but I never had a birdhouse in my house! The photos are great and you tell such a wonderful story! The squirrel cracks me up. Is that a red squirrel? He just helped himself to the whole bag! And that raccoon, well, he goes straight to my heart!

Birds, they are so welcoming and yet so hard to get out of your house. Why is that? I could never keep them in plain view outdoors long enough because they fly away to quickly; yet when they turn your house into a birdhouse, they act like they are at the Hilton, or the Marriott, or some prestigious hotel and you they don't want to leave!

What a lovely post! I truly enjoyed it a lot!

Hi Joan - Thanks for stopping by. Our birds would NEVER do anything like that :-) They just come by for a visit and are very well-mannered. I should have put a link to the blog about the raccoons. Its really cute if you have a minute to visit:
Security Alert ... The Masked Bandits Gained Entry Through The Pet Door!

Patricia - I'm glad I had the chance to make you smile! Yes, that is a red squirrel. There was another photo of him where about all you can see is his tail, he is so far into the bag! Too bad it was too blurry to use. This is an example of our gray squirrels. "You've got my back, don't you? Don't you?"
Two Gray Squirrels

Toni - With your love of animals, I knew you'd like this one. Thanks for visiting. I will look into the groups you mentioned. Sure hope you and Craig are enjoying the weekend. Our weather today is spectacular!

Thanks for confirming that it was a red squirrel. I just love wild animals too! Isn't it fun when they make themselves at home! Of course it can be a real work out to get them out, but for the moment and for the purpose of taking pictures, it's great!

Hi Patricia - We were having coffee yesterday morning and had a chipmunk to entertain us. He ran all around the pool looking for a way to get a drink and finally hoped down onto the solar cover (we need to warm our water, unlike yours, I'm sure). This must be a regular routine for him because he somehow knew the cover would support him. He got his drink and hopped up onto the concrete deck and left. I just love having the animals around :-)
