Why Should I Be Involved in Business Organizations?

By
Real Estate Agent with BHHS Ambassador Real Estate

The question often asked is "Why Should I Be Involved in Business Organizations?"

Who, What, When, Where, Why are the questions I will explore as I think this through.

Who?

  • Quality people with similar interests who believe in the cause.
  • People who want to learn more about the business of real estate.
  • Affiliates who want to get acquainted with others in the real estate community.

What? (My personal groups)

  • CRS - Certified Residential Specialists®  are the top Agents, in the country and in the world, who have gone the extra mile to spend time and money on education to the benefit of their clients and customers.
  • WCR - Women's Council of REALTORS® is a network of successful REALTORS® empowering women to exercise their potential as entrepreneurs and industry leaders.

When?

  • A monthly business Luncheon meeting opportunities with guest speakers about 10 times a year for WCR.
  • Two to three meeting times a year for local CRS members.
  • Once or twice a year for orientation and training workshops for those interested in leadership.
  • Ongoing educational opportunities (offered locally and across the country)
  • Conventions 2-3 times a year (open to all REALTORS®)
  • Committee meetings, one to four times a year, if you choose to be involved
  • Leadership often meets once a month for Board meetings.

Where?

  • Local Luncheons and meetings
  • I have had the honor of traveling (my choice) to
    • Lincoln, NE
    • Hastings, NE
    • Wisconsin
    • Chicago (3)
    • New Orleans (2)
    • Washington, D.C. (3)
    • Kansas City
    • Council Bluffs, IA
    • San Francisco
    • This year I plan to go to Anaheim, CA.

Why?

  • For personal growth.
    • Education offered and accepted
    • Pride of accomplishment when the task is completed
    • Knowledge learned from the experiences of others
    • Reconnecting with friends I have met at previous events
  • For business growth
    • Opportunity to meet and get to know agents locally.
      • Getting to know local agents benefits all parties in a transaction.
    • Opportunity to meet and get to know agents from other parts of the state and the country.
    • Referral networking
    • Sharing and taking from each others experiences
    • Valuable Classes and education offered at these events
  • For my Business Community
    • Representing myself, my company, my board, my state, WCR, and CRS
    • Knowledge learned and shared
    • Offering opportunities to the business community through education and growth.

Why should you choose to be involved? (In committees as well as in leadership.)

  • Service to the organization or association
  • Service to associates, REALTORS®
  • Ask yourself, "If not me, then who?"
  • Or ask, "Why not me?"
  • THEN JUST DO IT!

Donna,

Personal growth is an under appreciated goal in my opinion. Meeting with like minded people can get you charged up too.
