For My Mortgage Broker Friends.....

For My Mortgage Broker Friends with a sense of humor.....

What does everyone look for in a mortgage broker? For years,I had a very difficult time finding a mortgage broker I could trust, one who would return my phone calls in a timely manner, someone who didn't give me the run around and someone I could rely on.

I must say, over the last couple years,I have found some wonderful hard working mortgage people!Even recently,I have met a couple more here on AR,who I would entrust with my business..and my agents (I am sure you know who you are)

In the past,I have had bait and switch pulled on me at the closing table and I even had one mortgage broker leave me hanging at the closing table.(She just disappeared....didn't close my loan and even sent me a bill for fees she incurred)I informed her,she could get those fees from my school....SCREW U!

What are some of your experiences with mortgage people? What do you look for from them?

Mortgage brokers, what do you do to keep the realtors and your customers happy?

When we all work together, things are much smoother!

Glad you liked the cartoon Richard.....word of mouth is big....I always let everyone I know my dissatisfaction with the "C" word lender....and for the mortgage brokers that wish to work with my agents....DO NOT EVER try and pass one of our loans through them!

Matthew,I am with you...it is very frustrating when you have a deal going and the other agent or mortgage person does not return your call. This is a business you need to be on top of!

Good Realtors who don't have "other" jobs are busy during the day and as a courtesy to lenders, have closers in our office handing our files so you don't have to find us in the field.   I have a great working relationship with lenders and attorneys in our area as they know everything will be done on my files and a broker review done prior to closing and the buyer and seller know what is on the settlement statements prior to arrival and it all goes smoothly.......I do appreciate lenders who go to the trouble to show up at closings......

As to lenders, I trained to be one so it makes it easier for me to work with lenders who speak the truth and have knowledge.  That is all experienced Realtors want is responsiveness, competitive rates and fees and the truth......we can handle the truth.......

Julie..that is another good point...how many mortgage brokers go to their closings?I have seen quite a few..not show up to closing.Of course, there are realtors too who do not go to closings...which makes no sense whatsover to me!

Great 'toon, BRL.
I work with many first time home buyers.
I look for a lender that isn't afraid to tell my clients that they're just not ready to buy a house yet,
a lender that will point them in the right direction so they can get their finances in order and perhaps buy  home within the next 6 months to a year.

Rick, let me first address your blog and then I will get to Wayne's question. When I first arrived in AR, I wrote a blog that was about the 7 traits of being a great loan office. Customer service is at the top of this for a reason. It is not just what I preach, it is what I practice.

In Wayne's case, I also have directed my pre-qual and pre-approvals to Realtors that I can trust that will take care of my customers. It is a 2 way street in my book and I definately believe in sharing the wealth.

I've had great relationships with a few mortgage brokers, but recently it has been rough.  They muct feel like it's open season on them and are laying low.

Rick, by the way, I rated your blog a 5. I know that when I went to look for a customer, I was going as a broker myself until I found my devil outfit.

You'll Be SOLD on us!
I am so lucky to have a mortgage broker that calls me back within an hour if he is busy and on weekends.  What sold me was on Super Bowl Sunday, I needed a question answered in order to write a contract. I called the office and left a message.  He called me right back.  He also sends me referrals and advertises with me.  He turns down refinances if it is not in the seller's best interest.  I have never used anyone else.  I wanted to work with another loan officer at one time but he told me up front - weekends are for his family.  I really admire him for that and wish my business was only on the weekdays.

I loved the cartoon when I first saw it. You know my feelings on mortgage brokers and to this day, I still can't believe that one did what she did!

I have had many good experiences and a couple of bad ones - given the percentages, I guess we are pretty lucky with most of the deals -
