Artspace Patchogue Lofts

Earlier this week , a grand opening was held for local officials, residents of Artspace and the general public.

The completion of this much-anticipated $18 million dollar development is key to the revitalization of downtown Patchogue and an essential part of Patchogue's transition to a "Village of the Arts" according to Mayor Paul Pontieri.

The five-story, 60,000 square foot project includes 45 loft-style apartments and 2 retail spaces on the ground level where people engaged in the arts can live and work. This residence was intended to compliment Main Street which is already filled with creative businesses.

The lucky occupants were picked by lottery last October. They were also required to pass before an artist selection committee who stressed a cooperative environment. The artists would be required to display their work in communal areas, interact with other residents and open their doors for art exhibits.

The 1,2 or 3 bedroom apartments boast 9 ft. ceilings, exposed ductwork and pipes, floor to ceiling windows, track lighting and concrete floors.

Artspace is currently involved in half a dozen projects throughout the nation. Learn more at their website:

I really like the way the buildings look. The description of the interior sounds wonderful. This seems like a great place to live. I can understand why you had to choose people with a lottery.

What a great idea.  You could live where you work and still sell.  This is a great idea.  How did they do that?

When they built the San Diego Padres ballpark downtown, it resulted in a great revitalization of the East Village neighborhood, and now there are art galleries, great dining, live/work lofts. It's amazing what a ballpark that is only used less than 100 times each year can do to revitalize neighborhoods. Same with football stadiums.

Jill, I love the graphic play and window cutouts....it reminds me of the package design I did that won me the CLIO!

Wow, Patchogue really has come quite a long way since when I lived there years ago. I was just trying to find the place I lived in which if memory (always sketchy) was on Railroad Ave. Lived in an apartment on the second floor of an old house next to a warehouse. Wasn't the best area back then..but real close to main street. I used to walk and shop it often.

Betty - I know, it sounds really young and hip.

Ron - This company specializes in that setup and was brought in specifically for that purpose.

Eric - That's what everyone is hoping for. Hope it doesn't take too long.

Ellen - You obviously won the CLIO for a good reason. I'm sure it was a wonderful package design.

Cindy - Patchogue had its heyday and then it started to going downhill. Now, it's on its way back up. They're doing really great thing there.

One of my regrets, is that when I lived in Long Island (Hauppauge) I didn't explore more. I visited several towns, but ran out of time by the time I had to move again.

I find it so interesting that you lived right there and ended up in California. How long were you on the island?

Hi Jill,

Nice post, and way to get a good "new beginning" to the area.

Nice to see somewhere, someone is doing something.

Thanks, Clint. Innovative thinking, to be sure. I'm going to keep an eye on the area to see what happens in years to come.
